  • NCI to Use Headspace Audio Technology

    By Guest |

Headspace, Inc., a leading creator of software technologies for audio on the Internet, today announced that Network Computer, Inc., has licensed the Headspace audio engine for inclusion in its flagship browser package, TV Navigator, which is currently shipping to NCI's CE manufacturers.

"Headspace's audio engine has superior audio quality and a small memory footprint that allows TV Navigator to deliver superior audio performance while keeping costs down," said Dave Limp, Vice President of consumer marketing at NCI. "We chose the Headspace audio engine technology because it's a modular, open standard that does not lock TV Navigator into any one hardware platform or operating system."

In addition to the Headspace audio engine, NCI has also licensed music and user interface sounds effects from Headspace. Much of the audio content NCI selected from Headspace's RMF Music Collections which can be found at http://www.headspace.com/. A custom musical theme was created especially for TV Navigator by composer and Headspace CEO, Thomas Dolby Robertson. In keeping with its value-added approach, NCI plans to make this audio content available to TV Navigator partners, including NEC and other manufacturers to be announced.

"Headspace's combined offerings of audio technology and content allowed us to satisfy all of TV Navigator's sound requirements in a single stop," notes Thomas Dolby Robertson. "The result for users will be a very Television-like audio experience with consistent high-fidelity and instantaneous downloads, but RMF surpasses TV sound in that it also offers true, non-linear musical interactivity."
