    By Guest |

Yamaha Corporation of America, Pro Audio Group, announces several major developments in support of the company's DSP Factory computer-based digital audio production system. The new AX16AT PCI card provides two pairs of Alesis ADAT'-format optical connectors for transferring 16 tracks of digital audio to and from the DS2416 audio card at resolutions as high as 24-bit. This new device allows the DSP Factory to be easily interfaced with a wide variety of professional audio devices including digital multitrack recorders, external audio converters, and digital mixing consoles including Yamaha's new 01V.

"The DSP Factory has generated a huge amount of interest since its introduction at this year's Winter NAMM show," states Wayne Hrabak, marketing manager, Professional Audio Group. "The system's 24 channels of 02R-quality mixing and 16 channels of hard disk recording appeal to a wide variety of users."

"The AX16AT opens up a world of possibilities for the DSP Factory, allowing the customer to transfer high-bit multi-channel audio to and from the DS2416," states Peter Chaikin, product manager, digital mixing products. "This provides a broad range of interfacing options. For instance, the new Yamaha 01V mixer can become a 24 x 8 front-end featuring 12 mic pre-amps with phantom power, faders, additional EQ, effects, dynamics processing and routing."

In addition, Yamaha also announces that software drivers to support the DSP Factory on Apple Macintosh computers will be available to developers in October of this year. On the PC platform, several music software manufacturers have DSP Factory supporting products nearing completion or already released. These include: Musicator, Sonic Foundry, IQS Software, Steinberg's Cubase VST24, Emagic's Logic Audio, Sek'd's Samplitude, Cmexx's C-Console, Canan Computers' Quartz Studio Pro, The Cakewalk Company's Cakewalk Pro Audio Version 7 and Minnetonka Software's MixTrack.

The Yamaha DSP Factory is a computer-based digital audio production system centered around the DS2416 audio card. Featuring technology from Yamaha's 02R Digital Recording Console, the DS2416 provides 16 tracks of digital audio playback with 8 tracks of simultaneous recording at up to 32-bit resolution. Each DS2416 card also features 24 channels of digital mixing with 4 bands of fully parametric EQ per channel as well as extensive real-time dynamics and effects processing.

For audio connections, the DS2416 features stereo analog in and out as well as 20/24-bit stereo digital connectors. Two DS2416 cards can be linked to create a larger system. Various expansion options allow the DSP Factory to be custom-configured for a wide variety of production situations. These include the AX16AT Audio Expansion Card which provides 16 digital inputs and outputs in ADAT format as well as the AX44 Audio Expansion Unit (MSRP $299.95) which features four 1/4-inch inputs and outputs as well as a connection for headphones. Yamaha's DSP Factory is an open-ended system that will continue to grow in capability as new expansion options are introduced.
