"A major step" for songwriters' rights
By HC News |
Streaming services have undeniably changed the way we listen to music, yet the decrees that govern how songwriters are being paid for their work not only predates streaming, it predates the iPod. Fortunately, the DOJ has agreed to review the decrees and ASCAP President Paul Williams said it's "a major step in the right direction."
ASCAP has sucessfully navigated situations like this before. Over the past 100 years, the organization has been on the front lines welcoming the introduction of song performances on radio, tv and cable. No matter how the technologies change, ASCAP will continue to evolve and ensure songwriters are being compensated fairly.
