Yamaha DME32 Digital Mixing Engine Now Delivering

Yamaha Corporation of America, Commercial Audio, announces the delivery of the DME32 Digital Mixing Engine. Equipped with the latest Yamaha DSP technology, the 32-input, 32-output processor (expandable to 128 inputs and 128 outputs with 32 cascade busses) has been engineered for applications which include: installed systems, loudspeaker system control, matrix/routing, multi-effects processing, surround mixing, submixing and format conversioneliminating the need for multiple effects and equipment racks.

In July, Yamaha announced a no-cost Manager Software download for the DME32 for the benefit of present and prospective users. This comprehensive package, identical to the version shipped with the unit, showcases the capabilities and operation of the DME32, and may be accessed on the Yamaha Pro Audio website at www.yamaha.com/proaudio/products/system_dme.htm.

The DME32 operates at a sampling rate of 48 kHz with 32-bit resolution. Parameter adjustments, scene changes and other functions are accessible from the front panel of the 3U rack-space unit. A range of digital and analog I/O is also available via four MY (mini-YGDAI) card slots.

Intuitive "block diagram"-style programming, using Yamaha proprietary software and an outboard computer (which may be removed once the unit is programmed and configured), offers a palette of DSP "components." Accessible from pull-down menus, these include: matrix mixers, parametric and graphic EQs, dynamics processors (compressor, noise gate, expander, de-esser and "ducker"), delays, crossovers, automatic mic mixers and multi-effects processors. A system may be designed by dropping component blocks on the screen and drawing a line from the output of one "component" to the input of another to produce signal flow.

"Clients can familiarize themselves with the operation of the DME32 by accessing the software package," adds Marc Lopez, product manager, Commercial Audio. "Additionally, potential customers are able to get a first-hand look at this incredible product."

The system includes the AD824 and DA824 A/D and D/A converters, which can be located up to 200 meters from the DME32 via AES/EBU cards, enabling the placement of inputs and outputs throughout a facility as needed. Up to eight inputs and eight outputs are available in the following formats: ADAT, T/DIF, AES/EBU and analog I/O.

Peripheral devices are available for expansion and interfacing with other components. The DME32 may be expanded to 32 inputs and 32 outputs by adding remote I/O componentsthe AD824 (input x 8) or DA824 (output x 8)or by plugging Yamahas MY8/MY4 series mini-YGDAI interface cards into the units four dedicated slots. Up to four DME32 units may be cascaded together to provide a total of 128 inputs and 128 outputs with 32 cascade busses for maximum capability.
