Expanding on the tradition of features and performance of the popular MX12/4 small-format analog mixing console, Yamaha Professional Audio will debut the 12-channel MX12/6 and 20-channel MX20/6 at Winter NAMM 2001. Ideal for project studios, small-to-mid sized mobile or installed sound applications, the MX12/6 and MX20/6 deliver professional sound quality and control versatility in lightweight, portable packages.

The MX12/6 features 8 mono input channels (CH 1-8) and two stereo input channels (CH 9/10, 11/12), while the MX20/6 contains 16 mono input channels (CH 1-16), and two stereo input channels (CH 17/18, 19/20). Both are equipped with four GROUP and STEREO outputs for a total of six output busses.

For clean, quiet signal, both units feature the same exceptional high quality head amplifiers as those found in the Yamaha MX12/4. Mono channel inputs contain both mic level XLR-type connectors and line level unbalanced TRS phone jacks. Stereo input channels are equipped with both unbalanced phone jacks and RCA phono jacks. Each input channel contains 7-band EQ and three bus switches that allow the signal to be routed to GROUP 1/2, 3/4 and/or ST outputs. A TO ST switch on the GROUP 1/2 and 3/4 faders routes the signal to the stereo bus when engaged, or keeps the signal independent of the stereo output signal. Phantom power (+48 Volt) is supplied to mono channels and controlled with a single switch (CH 1-8) on the MX12/6 and two switches (CH 1-8 and 9-16) on the MX20/6 (all switches are two-toned for easy position recognition).

"These small-footprint mixers deliver the same sound quality and professional-level features of a large-format board," states Wayne Hrabak, marketing manager, Professional Audio. "Best of all, they deliver that performance at amazingly affordable prices."

Three AUX sends provide extended signal routing: pre-fader AUX 1, selectable pre/post fader AUX 2, and EFFECT, which can send the signal to the internal Digital Effects section or an outboard effect. Insert I/O jacks, which may also be used as direct out jacks, are supplied on channels 1-4 of the MX12/6 and channels 1-8 on the MX20/6. Both units contain a 100mm stereo fader for more precise control over the stereo out volume. A balanced XLR Mono Out jack has its own control, independent of the ST fader.

An upgraded digital effects section contains 16 high quality effects, and a variable parameter knob to control the level, speed, etc. Switches allow the selected effect to be applied to the AUX 1, AUX 2 and/or Stereo output signals. Improvements continue with TAPE IN/REC OUT jacks for easy playback and recording, a headphone jack and connector for an optional BNC-type lamp.
