• Audioinstruction Announces Shane Wilson's Guide to Mixing Instructional DVD

    By Guest |

Audioinstruction, LLC is proud to release it's latest educational DVD for audio engineers: Shane Wilson's Guide to Mixing.

The DVD features over four hours of video footage, with one of Nashville's top engineers—Shane Wilson. Shane's extensive discography includes Switchfoot, Third Day, Mercy Me, Owsley, and Big Kenny.

Viewers get a rare glimpse into Shane's workflow. The entire mix session is shown from start to finish preserving every nuance of Shane's technique. Not only does Shane explain his decisions, but more importantly why he's made them.

Viewers will also discover Shane's subtle tricks to working quickly. For instance, as Shane works within Pro Tools™, he uses plug-in presets as a starting point. All of Shane's presets are shown as well as his final plug-in settings for the session. In fact, virtually every piece of gear used within the session is documented—including Shane's analog parallel processing signal chain.

As usual, all of the original audio files from the session are included on a separate data disk. Users can import the 24-bit .WAV files into their own DAW to try their own mix.

Ever wondered how much of a difference mixing to analog tape makes? Audioinsruction invited Lynn Fuston of 3Daudio to help answer that question. Shane, Lynn, and Russ Long discuss the subject, as they print the final mix to several different mix paths including various A/D converters, 1/2" tape, a Neve ™ summing mixer, etc. All of the mix variations are also included on the data disc.

Other bonus features include a Q & A section, and a chapter discussing Shane's studio setup.

Finally, a three-hour "engineer's commentary" is included. Music professionals Lynn Fuston, Russ Long, Jason Lehning, and Jeff Roach watch the program and discuss the session as it happens with Shane. The conversation swings wide, ranging from Shane's work to current industry trends and more.

Shane Wilson's Guide to Mixing is a complete mixing guide for engineers just starting their career, as well as working professionals.

Available in NTSC and PAL format. MSRP: $79.95.
