Roland used the Winter NAMM show to unveil their new flagship V-Drums set, the V-Pro Series TD-20S-BK. This V-Drums kit was designed from the ground up to feel like a complete musical instrument, giving drummers the most natural response and sensitivity ever in an electronic drum set, says Roland. This complete system revolves around the new TD-20 module, improved mesh V-Pads with rim shot triggering on toms, Roland's new V-Hi-Hat with full motion capability, and an ergonomically designed drum stand--plus a black look.

At the heart of this flagship V-Drums set is the TD-20 Percussion Sound Module, which not only features all-new sounds, but a new level of expressiveness and dynamic range when used with the new PD-Series V-Pads and V-Hi-Hat. For example, drummers can now play rim shot sounds on the toms--including the "click" sound--and even vary the rim and bass drum sounds depending on how they are played. New interval control technology lets drummers create more realistic snare rolls and cymbal swells.

The TD-20 also features a new level of V-Editing for almost unlimited creative control. For example, drummers can now select from several types of kick beaters (felt, wood, plastic), change the cymbal size, or even add "sizzle" via modeled rivets or a chain. It is even possible to add snare drum "buzz" (the resonance created on the toms and bass drum). Other handy features include eight group faders, 15 individual compressors and EQs, onboard Ambience and Mastering effects, a 5-part sequencer--plus 10 analog outputs and a S/PDIF digital output. The TD-20 also comes with a CompactFlash slot for storage, V-LINK technology for triggering video clips using an Edirol DV-7PR (sold separately), and an expansion slot for future upgrades.

For pads, Roland includes three new PD-125BK (12-inch) mesh V-Pads and two PD-105BK (10-inch) mesh V-Pads with dual-trigger technology, better dynamic response and more even and accurate head/rim triggering--including the ability to play rim shots on the toms. The V-Pro Series is also the first V-Drums set to use Roland's amazing new V-Hi-Hat, which uses two cymbals for full motion capability and natural feel--it even mounts on any acoustic hi-hat stand! For kick triggering, there's the new KD-120BK V-Kick, plus two of Roland's acclaimed CY-14C V-Cymbal Crashes and a CY-15R V-Cymbal Ride. All the pads sport a new black look that's sure to catch some eyes on stage.

The final component of the V-Pro Series is the new MDS-20BK Drum Stand. Sporting a matching black finish, this stand uses a curved design with raked edges to keep everything in reach. All cabling can be neatly concealed inside the tubing, and changing the height is easy, thanks to quick-release cam levers with more durable T-fittings.

    MSRP: $6,495.
