With the theme “Beyond Your Wildest Drums” intended to inspire girls and women to “drum big”, the producers of the Hit Like A Girl female drumming contest have just released the first major news regarding the 2016 edition of the international event.

“We are proud to announce that this year not one but two of drumming’s most exciting, talented and influential young players, Anika Nilles and Hannah Welton, have agreed to share the position of celebrity spokeswoman for the Hit Like A Girl Contest,” says HLAG executive director and DRUM! magazine publisher, Phil Hood. “Hannah and Anika are great drummers who have taken drumming beyond their wildest dreams. They are also great role models for young girls who want to play drums and follow their own dreams.”

Anika Nilles and Hannah Welton have appeared on magazine covers around the world and are veterans of multiple international tours. Hannah (www.hannahforddrums.com), who currently performs and records with Prince in 3rdEyeGirl, requires no introduction. She began drumming when she was seven and has been playing professionally since she was fifteen. Anika (www.anikanilles.com) is a Youtube sensation with over five million views of her video performances. She was also a runner-up in the 2014 HLAG contest.

The 5th annual Hit Like A Girl contest will open for entries on Monday, February 1 and close on March, 13, 2016. During the entry period, 5 sets of weekly winners will be chosen by Celebrity/Industry judging teams. There will then be 2 weeks of public voting, followed by the announcement of 20 finalists in each of the under and over 18 age divisions, and 1 week of professional judging. The 2016 HLAG Contest winners will be announced during a live awards show on April 14th.

Additional information regarding sponsors, judges, ambassadors and other aspects of the project will be announced in the coming weeks. Visit www.hitlikeagirlcontest.com for the latest news.

Now in its 5th year, since the Hit Like A Girl Contest began there have been more than 1,600 entrants from 45 countries and more than 8,000,000 web impressions.
