Zygoat has released version 1.0.4 of Doggiebox, their beat sequencing software for Mac OS X.

Zygoat Doggiebox is a versatile percussion sequencer (drum machine application) for Mac OS X aimed at guitar players, drum programmers, home recording and low-end studio folk. With it, you can:

    • Create and modify drum tracks of unlimited length using a flexible yet intuitive interface
    • Specify intricate rhythms with ease
    • Include tempo and time signature changes (including compound time) over arbitrary bars
    • Create and modify your own drum kits, from the sounds they produce to the icons used within the program
    • Play back a song using different drum kits, via automated instrument matching
    • Designate song sections, such as verses and choruses, for easy navigation and management
    • Export your creations to AIFF or WAV (or any of a dozen formats) for use in other audio recording applications

Version 1.0.4 is a free update and includes several improvements to both the drum kit editor and song editor.

New features in the drum kit editor:

    • Support for dragging and dropping sound files to and from the Finder, as well as saving to disk in any chosen format.
    • Volume slider control for adjusting the nominal level for each drum sound.
    • Support for dragging and dropping drum images to and from the Finder, or directly from graphics applications, as well as copy/paste using the clipboard, and saving to disk in TIFF format.

    Improvements to the song editor:

    • Fixed a bug where some Undo functions would not work in a newly created song.
    • Fixed a bug where importing or exporting sounds would fail when the filename contained non-standard characters.
    • Fixed a bug where it was impossible to delete the first section marker in the list.
    • Added a collapse-to-mono toggle button.
    • Improved responsiveness of user interface and position indicator after stopping playback.
    • Improved the alert messages when a drum kit is missing or unavailable - no longer says "Cannot find '(null)'".

Doggiebox costs USD $29. A functional evaluation version is available for free download. Doggiebox requires Mac OS 10.1.3 and up (though Mac OS 10.2 is strongly recommended).
