Is this a fair price for this Strat?

$400 with hardcase

96 Jimmie Vaughan Strat

Small 2" hairline crack in finish below the bridge, everything else appears to be in good condition

Frets in good condition

Rusty saddles and screws

Electronics are fine

I know the new ones have been selling for $500 at MF but I wanted an older one with the tinted neck and harder V shape and thicker neck...

Is this a decent price?

I'd offer a little lower too and be prepared to walk away if you get a no, if you're doing the deal in person. If you do get a no, though, and really want the guitar, I'd pay the $400. $50 probably won't mean as much to you as NOT having a guitar you really want.

If it turns out to be a great guitar for you (and that's almost impossible to tell until you've had it awhile) you won't care you paid a little more than you wanted to.

I've watched the prices of the JV strat fall fairly consistently since I sold mine about 18 months ago. It was a closet queen minty '97 in Oly white that I got $525 for.

Since then, a JV can almost always be had for $425 or $400. With the condition that you describe, I would stick to an offer of $350. I don't think you'll get outbid and I'm sure that the seller wants it gone.

Eh I found it at a musicgoround, they won't haggle and it's actually only with a gig bag now so I don't think I can do it right now. With the rust everywhere, finish crack, not being able to play it first and only a gigbag it's kind of hard to justify buying it.

Steveman I was specifically looking for a 90s tinted black one to make a gilmour strat, but yeah that was a good deal on a new white one today
