Members techristian Posted August 15, 2009 Members Posted August 15, 2009 There are 2 types of people in this world. GIVERS and TAKERS. In the work world the takers are the ones that goof off all of the time. The takers are always true to their form, so employers give up trying to get more work out of them. "We'll give the work to "_____" because we know that he/she will get it done." So more work is given to the givers. The givers are also the first ones to volunteer for fund raising activities while the takers sit by and watch. The givers do the hard work while the takers feel that they are owed a living. If you ever manage to get some work out of a taker, you will wish that you did the work yourself because they must be watched continuously and they complain so loudly. I believe that it is almost impossible to change the nature of takers. Comments? Dan
Members deanmass Posted August 15, 2009 Members Posted August 15, 2009 There are 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't... I can and have been both a giver and a taker..it depends on what I have to offer in either direction..I will sit something out if it is not something I know about or am interested in, but will step up to give if I feel I can help the situation...2 categories of people for all scenarios is far too limiting, unless of course, you area a CPU..

I was just waiting to see how long that would take. Particularly since one of my out of work sysop friends repeated it verbally yesterday... which doesn't have quite the same tightness, since you king of have to say ten and... well... it's one joke that's better on paper. But it doesn't stop this guy from telling it every week or two.

It's well more than a wee bit on the bright/harsh side, yeah. Fairly unpleasant tonal balance, to be sure. I figured it was the vid sound, so I found the album cut in Rhapsody, but, no, it's the mix. I think they must have been using a roll of toilet paper over the tweeters on their NS10M's. (Mind you, I was just listening to the decidedly dark sound of Neil Young's Tonight's the Night. But that jack-the-10K mix on the Rush would be harsh to my ears anytime. I don't recall their old stuff being that tweaked, tonally. Someone must have convinced them that that was what all the kids were doing in '96.)

Members techristian Posted August 15, 2009 Author Members Posted August 15, 2009 So which one are you, Dan? I fall in the giver category, but don't get me wrong. I get tired and am happy to sit back and let others do the work sometimes. I will admit. It is nice to feel needed. I wouldn't want to be dependant on someone else. I also realize that there are those which have no choice due to handicaps. I'm not talking about them. If you are confined to a wheelchair in a nursing home, you will be dependant on the givers. The other neat thing about some takers is that they somehow have a "sixth sense" knowing how to start work right before the boss walks in. Dan
Members Rudolf von Hagenwil Posted August 15, 2009 Members Posted August 15, 2009 Philistine smart kid, finally you got it! "Philistine", a good word to describe your video here we would call something like that Maskenfreiheit or "Geschmacks-Verstauchung", english: taste-spraining
Members Beck Posted August 16, 2009 Members Posted August 16, 2009 I fall in the giver category, but don't get me wrong. I get tired and am happy to sit back and let others do the work sometimes. It's good to have a helping personality, even if some people see it and may try to take advantage of it. The other thing is sometimes we get tired and burnt out and have to lean on someone else for a time. God sends someone. But after a bit of rest we're good as new for like another 3 to 5 years before having to lean on someone again. Works that way for me anyway. Actually the two types of people are those with DNA from celestial beings and those without. (I know you think I'm kidding). This is my 399th Great Grandmother Becca. She was 207 years old when this portrait was done. We have good genes. The temple where the portrait was done (you can barely see the interior in the background) now lies far beneath the Roman ruins of baalbeck in the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon.
Members rasputin1963 Posted August 16, 2009 Members Posted August 16, 2009 I remember when I was a young man, first going out into the world by myself, in cities like NYC, Boston, SFCA, LA, London... Observing society and how it functioned. I recall writing in my journal my conviction that there were two kinds of people. The specific descriptors I used were these: Those getting served Those doing the servingSame idea I suppose, just from a slightly different angle...
Members Ani Posted August 16, 2009 Members Posted August 16, 2009 The takers and then the people who "LET" people take. I know it's hard, but sometimes you have to say NO.
