Drummers Beware!

I'm not showing off here or anything but you gotta hear my 13 year old nephew on this track playing drums.

So I fly him up to visit me for a few days and he informs me he is now a drummer!

Last i heard he was taking guitar lessons and didn't like it.

He managed to get in the school band and he plays a lot of Band hero or what ever that's called.

So I took him in the studio and plugged a bass in and we wrote a little 3 section ditty, got a good take, then i layed some quick SG-marshall tracks on it and we went round and sampled a bunch of stuff in the backyard for color.

He says "We should call it 'Backyard Jam' Jimmy" I said "done!"

The kid is awesome. I was totally blown away.

He does a weird triplet thing on the snare that is so cool in the c section and at times he almost nails a Keltner feel!

WTF

Ok i AM bragging but so what.

Backyard Jam (pardon the quick and dirty mix)

Bragging's OK, kids need encouragement &, though a bit uneven at times, that's not bad at all.

Most impressive is the apparent understanding of structure & playing different sections.

Oh & I liked the wacky bird & motorpsyco stereo bit...

Thanks for the comments folks. I don't know much about kids and drum skills relatively, but i do know he is tastier than some adults i have gigged with :)

I am really excited that he is into it though, such a cool thing to have in common. Historically i have always been drawn to drummers, some of my closest friends have been and i find the drumming the most interesting part of a band usually. I think most people do whether they know it or not, on a primal level anyway.

A great drummer makes the musicians playing with him/her better musicians, or should i say opens the door for them to show how good they can be.

We need more great drummers in the world.
