Members mschafft
Hello everyone, I just bought a second-hand Telecaster which is labelled Fender made in USA. But it looks not authentic to me. Can you please have a look at these pictures and tell me if there is any chance that this truely was made by Fender USA? Thanks for your help. Members Tweedledee
It's hard to tell for sure given the small size of the photos, but my initial feeling is that it's fake. The font and font size on the back of the headstock are wrong. Wrong tuners for an MIA. Neck pickup looks like it has a ceramic bar magnet, which is wrong. It looks like it's a toploader rather than string-through, which is wrong given that the serial number starts with a Z. The bridge itself looks wrong as well. Members jpnyc
Contact Fender and see what they have for the serial.
Members IamBurnout
Why do people take their guitars apart before taking pics for this?
Members Lex.Luthier
Hard to tell from those pics but with most MIA Fenders the truss rod entrance has a walnut plug: Yours does not look like it has. While not a definitive reason to call it fake it would make me suspicious. Edit: Plus yours doesnt have a microtilt. Im really leaning towards fake. Members hecticone
I wouldn't use the word most. A ton of Fenders are made without that plug.
Members flummox
Not only is the Contour Body decal in the wrong place, Telecasters don't have Contour Bodies.
Members Yogi_Sizzle
Not only is the Contour Body decal in the wrong place, Telecasters don't have Contour Bodies. +1 That decal doesn't belong on that guitar, and it usually goes on the front of the headstock of a strat. Also the tuners are from a Squier or similar import. Also the neck doesn't seem to have a 22nd fret overhang, which if it was a Standard it would have. Looks like a Squier that somebody relabeled badly, I hope you didn't get burned

A lot of Fenders arent but most MIA Fenders where you can access the truss rod from the headstock are. In fact I cant name a single current MIA Fender with a headstock accessible truss rod opening that doesnt have a walnut plug.

Members bsman
The headstock shape also looks wrong (although the pics are such that it's impossible to tell for sure...)
Members buchanan-d
It looks very fake to me, no stamping on the neck or body join is a dead give away.
