Members lawnchair
Ok so I don't want to go over to the amp forum since they never respond to my questions... I'm looking at a Bassman 10 from '74 or '75. Its got the 4x10" speakers and is completely tube/p2p wired. Its a pretty kickass amp. However, I'd want to get it re-capped and cleaned; possibly recovered with tolex as well. Its $400 for the amp and would be about $250 for all the upgrades which makes it $650 or so plus the cost of new tubes. Do you think its worth it? I've been dying for a Bassman. My cousin picked up a 70s Bassman 50 head and cabinet for $400 total with no upgrades needed. I'd like to find a deal on one of those, but the Bassman 10 sounds pretty awesome. Any thoughts? Members lowbrow
Well... I have a Bassman Ten. I converted it to a head. It's a different monster than a Bassman of any other flavor. In truth, channel two is almost exactly like a Bandmaster. Channel one is rather unique. Regardless, they are very easy to modify, but the big limiting factor you should be aware of is they have one less pre-amp tube than most other push-pull Fender amps except the Bandmaster. Look at some schematics. Some people hate these amps and some love them. I love mine. Very different sounding Fender amp, and great for the garage rock sound I usually use. It loves pedals, is not super loud, and get's dirty early. As for price, well, take a look here to see the historical trend and averages: http://codekinesis.mine.nu:3000/price/list_history
Members Burningleaves
The upgrades would be a deal killer for me. For $650 you should be able to snag a mid-late 60's bassman head. I owned a bassman 10 for a few years and pretty much agree with lobrow's assessment. They are fun amps if the price is right. They look cool to boot! Members Blackface
I had a silverface twin reverb from the late 70's and it was pretty crappy compared to blackface amps or re-issues.

Late '70s Silverface Twins aren't really revered as well as late '60s through mid '70s Silverface Twins though.
