Members Cry Logic Posted October 16, 2009 Members Posted October 16, 2009 A few weeks back I was surfing around the net and somehow stumbled upon a link to a site called House Party. They do product promotions. What caught my eye was the chance to receive a free "Limited Signature Edition" of Windows 7 Ultimate, by holding a "Windows 7 Launch Party". hehehe I usually shy right away from these sort of things, but, for some unknown reason I clicked through on this one, filled out a few details and sent it off. You can imagine my surprise when I received an email telling me I'd been accepted and they would be sending me a "Party Pack" ! Well.. the Party Pack arrived the other day and sure enough, along with all this other "Party stuff" there were 2 discs. One with 32 bit and another with 64 bit versions of Windows 7 Ultimate! The cover signed by none other than Steve Ballmer! (Well it's printed with his signature anyway....) It's all a bit strange and there are a couple of videos floating around on Youtube, which are shockingly bad! And send-up of the original video which is funny. I don't care ... I get a free version of Windows 7, so I'm laughing. Holding my "Win 7 Launch Party" this Sunday. Just a few friends and family, bit of a laugh, maybe have jam, show 'em the new OS.... whatever...... It's the best free thing I've ever gotten from the internet!
Members AluminumNeck Posted October 16, 2009 Members Posted October 16, 2009 Be wary that it does not have something embedded depp into the code that will absolutely {censored} you in the ass later. Install it on a old machine and see what happens.

Install it on a old machine and see what happens. Yeah yeah .... With Steve Ballmer's name on it, it would be suicide for MS to do something like that. What sort of thing are you thinking might be in there? And if so, why wouldn't it be in any version of Win 7? At some stage you have to trust these purveyors or never use a computer again! Anyway I have a HDD mobile rack ( Drive Swap Bay). I've already installed it on a brand new HDD and it seems 100% kosher to me. Still got the old OS, on the original HDD, I can swap back to as well....
Members Cry Logic Posted October 16, 2009 Author Members Posted October 16, 2009 Check this video out. It's so awful I can't believe they thought it was OK to release! "ooooh! You went straight to an activity?" 1cX4t5-YpHQ And here's the 1st sendup I found. Bit of a hoot. There are many more. _UrnsS8mPU8

Members Alndln2 Posted October 16, 2009 Members Posted October 16, 2009 What if you don't live up to your end of the bargain? Do they send someone over to take the disks back?
Members Cry Logic Posted October 18, 2009 Author Members Posted October 18, 2009 Evidently, some people have already been sprungselling their free copy on eBay! I intend to keep mine and honor the deal. Gonna hold it on Sunday 25th Oct which alsohappens to be my 56th birthday! So I'm treating it as a birthday present from Microsoft. Now I can put that $450 AU towards that new i5 based system I'm gonna build soon. Got approx 8 people coming as well as my mum & dad. Gonna be very low key... a few drinks some nibblysand, hopefully, a bit of a jam. I might even go "straight to an activity"! hehehehe
