After 20 years of playing, I finally realized what so many have been preaching through the years - Nothing has more effect on your tone than your amp! I've always had OK gear - Fender Blues Jr, Vox AD60VT, Fender Princeton Chorus. After jamming with a friend who had a Mesa DC-5, I had came down with a serious case with amp envy. The Mesa was awesome but was way more amp than I needed, since I'm basically a basement player these days. After an extensive tone quest, I made my decision and purchased an Egnater Rebel 30.

I was simply BLOWN AWAY by what this amp could do at bedroom volumes. Don't get me wrong, it can get LOUD (all tube 30 watts) but my opportunities to crank it up are seriously limited these days with a 2 1/2 year old and another on the way. I needed something that I could play and record with in my small basement music room and this amp completely fit the bill. Great tones ranging from Fendery cleans to Marshall like overdrive. It's not a handmade amp but it definitely has a "boutique" feel and sound. Fit and Finish are top notch. It's two channels with seperate reverb controls for each channel which is controlled by the footswtich. For those that are familiar with the 30's sibling, the Rebel 20, one of the more unique features is the ability to blend between the pair of 6L6 and EL84 power tubes. Lots of other subtle features (tight & bright switches) that combined, really make for a versitile little amp. I couldn't be more pleased. If anyone is looking for a bedroom amp that delivers "the goods" for under a grand should definitely check this one out.

I like my 20 but I miss having built-in reverb. Fortunately it has an effects loop so I use my old Alesis Midiverb II with it. That does undo some of the portability advantage. Its loud enough to play with a healthy drummer indoors, but was barely loud enough outdoors. Besides the sound, the best thing about it is how easy it is to transport.

I played a bar gig awhile back and one of the acts had the Egnater 30 1x12 on a stand and miked.

Of the 6 bands and various nice equipment that was there(DSL,DR,5150II,etc..) it easily sounded the best and did a lot of tones Very very good.

I have extreme Gas for a Egnater TOL btw.

Happy New Bad Ass amp day btw.

I might go for the head version if it comes down in price or if I buy one used.

I like the idea of the combo, but I'd probably swap out the speaker anyway and the head would be more versatile for what I do.

There's a guy on TGP thats selling a Rebel 30 head for $650 shipped. PM me or check out his listing on TGP if you are interested.

Congrats on the NAD!! i almost bought one, and you are correct, at low levels it sounds amazing, but once you push it there is hardly any clean headroom and the OD seems to become very boxy. but if i just wanted an amp to play with at home and record with without deafening my family, this would my choice as well.
