I don't mean to be an ass, but this forum seems to produce a lot of topics that I find (and I'm sure others find) to be completely {censored}ing stupid.

Why on earth do I give a {censored} if 2 people got deported from China for hitting to much tang? Or the death of auto tune (something that will not die until people stop listening to it). Or tattoos and who has them and having that turn into tattoos being stupid or not.

This forum is pretty off topic, there is a gigantic age gape it seems or something because there are only about 5-10% of threads I find relevant to pretty much anything to do with music or life in general.

But that's not to say that the people here aren't completely cool guys or the forum isn't worth dropping in on every once and a while. :thu::lol:

"Welcome to cyberspace's longest-running virtual party for musicians!"

I see SSS as a place for musicians to talk about almost anything.

I've noticed participation dropping off in other forums at other sites as well for a while now. And frankly I wouldn't want SSS to be as busy as something like The Political Party forum. You're just typing to hear yourself talk over there. Maybe two people see your post if your lucky because most people don't (probably don' have time) to read through those multi-page threads. In 5 minutes your thoughtful posts are buried by 20 others. So, it's as if you've not posted at all.

I also notice activity ebbs and flows depending on day of the week, time of day, as well as seasonal changes.

Fall is my favorite running and long walks in the woods season. Anytime now it may appear I've dropped off the face of the earth because at the times I normally post I'll be spending a lot more time outdoors taking in the Fall colors and taking night walks in the misty forests, where the fog turns the ground into a cloud.

But I

A lot of SSSers were sucked into the void known as the "127th AES Convention." I've hardly had a chance to check in here for the past 10 days, and I still have a lot of AES videos to do for the Theater.

Attendance isn't mandatory :), but I do monitor posts pretty carefully and we're still averaging the usual 100-200 posts/day - and we made it past 200K!

Congratulations, and welcome back, Craig!

So, in the four and a quarter years that SSS has been at HC, we've posted 202,076 times. In the five and a quarter years that SSS was at MusicPlayer, we logged 415,234 posts. That's 617,310 in less than a decade.

Do we have any tally for the AOL years?

Best,

Geoff

A forum can have too much traffic -- so that interesting threads get lost fast and are probably not seen by most folks. And they can have too much noise. Some folks just post to see themselves post, with often predictable results: a few nonsense comments, a few insults that might turn into a little flame war, etc.

I like this place.

It's like a big slow moving river with

lots of interesting flotsam & jetsam.

Mainly related to music, but not so myopic

that other topics are frowned upon.

I learn something here just about every day.

This is one of the best forums on the net for sure.

It's sorta nice to come back a day later and still

see, more or less the same posts in the 1st 20

or so.

Congratulations - you've just been been promoted by an IBM computer with a sense of humor! (Actually, it's a Mac, but work with me here... the Joseph Heller reference only works with IBM ;) )

It doesn't come with any additional superpowers, nor any compensation beyond personal satisfaction in a job well done, but in your new position, you can now go ye forth and multiply; spreading the gospel of SSS to the entire interwebz... but try not to spam anyplace, or do anything else to sully the good name of SSS.

Thanks for volunteering! :wave::lol::D

Or tattoos and who has them and having that turn into tattoos being stupid or not.

Because you do not work in Greater China.

And the tattoos to identify the members of the different local entertainment syndicates.

My dad was stationed in a B-25 bomber group (as he said, he "flew a desk") in the south of Italy. His rank seargeant and his last name Major. Sgt. Major. Source of much sometimes humorous confusion, he said.

When I read Catch-22 in high school -- I think one of my more intellectually oriented pals referenced it because of my last name I was kind of hazy about my old man's bomber group and the particulars. When I reread the book and started digging into my dad's situation, I realized there was a very good possibility that it was the same base Heller was at. After my dad retired, I tried to get him to read Catch-22 but he always hated jumbled timelines and that book's is so aggressively hashed that he never got into it. I told him about Major Major Major and his punch-card-error promotion to Major but it wasn't enough to get him to puzzle out the stream-of-consciousness prose. My dad passed more than 20 years ago and Heller's been gone for a while now, too, so I guess I'll never know for sure. (Unless he went on about it somewhere in print that I haven't seen, anyhow. But I feel pretty sure there's a link there...)

Dude, if you look at the topics listed, you can always pass them by and move on to something that fits your style.

You obviouslly read the threads all the way through from 'appetite to asshole'

If they bore you:bor: just move on... go count your socks or somethin' :)

Right. I like Craig's forum specifically because it represents a generally music tech oriented community but
other,
perhaps only peripherally related subjects are often freely discussed. I like getting that perspective, even though the subjects might just as easily be pertinent in a general interest forum.

Yes, it's a bunch of engineers and musicians that get together and talk about whatever. I like that aspect of it as well and have made a lot of friends here.

Hmmm...not really, but it was a lot. To be fair, a lot of those 415K posts accumulated before I split off the Political Party :)

I actually expected that SSS would have far less posts here, because at MP it was pretty much the main forum, and here, there are so many special interest forums with huge amounts of traffic. So we're doing okay :thu:

Nobody lubs teh Nads
:(

Well, I lub you... for what its worth.

I wish you'd move your hair off of your breasts though. It's frustrating. I first felt this frustration watching Brooke Shields in the movie, "Blue Lagoon" when I was just a lad. Her hair hung down on each side, covering her nipples, even when the wind was blowing. It was like stuck on with glue. It was just wrong! 'Course looking at her then-self now isn't the same. She looks like a kid, but I was a kid then too so...

Same thing with depictions of Eve in the Garden of Eden... it wasn't like that. Her hair blew around all over the place in real life. God would not glue a women's hair to her breasts. He's not like that.

There was a time, way back, when Craig would pop in and say something like "These things happens in phases. Give it some time and it will get back to normal." But this did he didn't. Maybe we are going through a down turn. Or, maybe it is just a phase the forum is going through.
