well crap... I tried to join the party but soundclick sucks balls. Won't let me upload the mp3. I've tried IE, firefox, and google chrome and the upload errors out with all 3.

I get an error:

-----------------------------------------------
Request object error 'ASP 0101 : 80004005'

Unexpected error

/uploads/songUpload2006.asp, line 32

The function returned |.
----------------------------------------------------

Oh well..... it probably analyzed my playing and decided it wasn't fit to post on the internet.

I always appreciate listens and comments!

Great wah! it exploded out with the first note. Oh man, sounds like someone singing at the beginning! Nice, meaty, intelligent lines and phrasing. All about "tone and the story!"

What wah is that??

Nice tone... kinda reminds me of a Europa / Santana type thing. I liked how you started out real smooth, and then got real nasty! Lots of creative ideas and you kept it flowing all the way through. I dug the volume swells. Enjoyed it!

Thanks Michael,

that tone kept trying to pull me into Santana-isms, and I had to almost slap myself to stop (wanted to though, and a couple of times I still couldn't help myself).

It's amazing what you can get out of a $300.00 guitar (with work and almost $300.00 put into it afterwards). Don't know what I'd do with a Les Paul or a USA Hamer. . .:p;)

Ok, finally got it to work. Hope I'm not too late to join the party.

I really gotta find a way of getting a better recorded sound. I'm using a vox DA5 going from the headphone jack straight to my cheap built-in soundcard. It gives me a very sterile, digital sound. Anyone have any ideas?

Hey guitarman that was good. You could use a better tone,I use a lexican lambda for my interface, they are pretty cheap but I get a good tone with it.Get a shure sm57 mice and mike one of your amps into the lambda and your good to go.The lambda plugs right into one of your usb ports on the computer. Its really easy to get it up and running. What are you using for your recording software?

I'm using audacity. I'm open for suggestions for something better.

As for what hardware I should use, I don't want anything too expensive since I don't record that much. It would be nice to have something that gives me a real guitar tone though. What I have now sounds like if I were plugging my guitar straight into a stereo system or something like that.

Very nice take man! So nice I listened twice. I use the micro cube head/line out and I think I get wonderful tones even through my sound card. Might be the sound card. Audacity isn't the issue. It's just digitally recording what it hears. Of course you might want to color it a bit after recording or even while recording. I use Reaper for my recording.

Thanks for the kind words. I thought about also doing still got the blues but I've played that before in a cover band and no matter what I tried to play, it simply didn't do it justice and I didn't want to just play a cover of it like I did with couldn't stand the weather.... so....

As for my tone, I know it's not audacity. It's just the tone I get when I plug the DA5's headphone out into the soundcard. I can get passable clean sounds but the distorted tones sound too sterile and boomy, like I mentioned, sounds to me like if I were plugging my guitar directly into a stereo system. Not sure how I can get around that other than by using some type of external usb unit.

I use toneport. There is a guitarport version for $70. Gives you a chance to juice it up a little. I have a couple of clips here where I used the toneport and it's associated gearbox digi amps and sims. I also use the toneport when I mic an amp or line out from one.

Great playing. Real nice lines and ideas; the repeated riffs build good excitement and tension. The guitar wails, and what you do makes that tone work well.

I'd go for one of the Line 6 USB units for quick recording. They now support 24 bit recording, and they are constantly improving the software and upgrading the drivers.

In fact, if you like the sound from the amp, you could set it up to just use the cabinet emulation and your preamp.

Hi Guys, hope you are all good.

I gotta play...bad arm or not!

I messed about on the "Cool E" jam from a few weeks back..I laid down a funky soft porn wah rhythm track on my friends home built guitar, and did a one take lead over the top.

Bit rusty and all that...thanks for listening guys!

cool. I see a couple of line 6 units. Looking at the toneport GX and also the guitarport. The toneport seems to be the cheaper one. Anyone know the difference?

Also, can both be used to record to audacity or any other software?

I downloaded Audacity 1.3 BETA version a little while ago and the Audio Device Info tab under the "Help" heading lists all audio devices, latencies, and sample rates supported by the devices, and Guitar Port shows up, so the 2 should work together.

Hey Marc,
Sorry to hear about your arm. Hoe you heal quickly. I know the lay off can be maddening at times. Sounds really good despite the layoff. What you feel may have become lax in technical fitness gets made up for in fire (and the fresh ideas). Nice "no prisoners" attitude! :thu:

Great "porno/Super Fly/Shaft" wah (now where did I put my orange fedora and ostrich feather???)

Just tested it with Guitar Port, and it records fine

Thanks.

Dumb question about guitar port. I've read a bunch of stuff about it already but there's one thing that isn't clear about it. Does the guitar sound come from the speakers plugged into the PC or do I need to plug headphones into the guitarport (or disconnect the PC speakers from the PC and connect them to the guitarport) and listen through either the headphones or the speakers connected through the GP? If so, how would I hear whatever other track I'm playing on my computer?

No, that's actually a very good question. You need to get your sound from the Guitar Port (or GX, or UX-1, etc.). That's how they get around the latency issues.

I use a little Behringer Eurorack 602A mixer and plug the Guitar Port out and Firebox out through that, and plug my speakers into the mixer's main out so I never have to physically switch things.
