I think people tend to give their cultural hero's a pass on reprehensible behavior. In Pete's case he might have gotten away easy because he's got the dough for the best lawyers. We've seen something similar with the Roman Polanski case were fans of his works and the Hollywood crowd are stepping up to defend him. In both cases if it was you are me who did these things the same people would throw us under the bus.

 

Personally I have mixed feelings regarding both cases. I think our society tends to be a puritanical and paranoid. On the other hand, I just want to yell "keep your hands off the kids you creeps!".

There are NO parallels between Pete T and Polanski. It is NOT something similar. Polanski had ACTUAL PHYSICAL INTERCOURSE with an ACTUAL UNDER-AGE GIRL under suspicious circumstances. Pete didn't.

 

Pete was exhaustively investigated to discover if an offence had actually taken place. It hadn't. He was never charged with any offence, let alone tried, let alone convicted.
