Members Into Nation
Well technically Pete... I hope The Who can get around this... I'd love to see Pete live again even though it's just he and Daltrey from the founders. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/fl-super-bowl-townshend-0101-20091231,0,3549118.story

Members twotimingpete
I don't know if he is a pedo. he abused guitars so maybe he abused kids. who knows. that said, I'd like to see him play. I'd agree on general principle that a pedo shouldn't be playing the superbowl, but I just don't know what the truth is. I've heard convincing arguments on both sides of it. in short I'm adding nothing to this conversation by posting, but posting anyway.

Members savoldi
The police were all over him. Nobody gets a pass with child porn. If there was anything to it, they'd have nailed him, and since they were on the scene and know best, you've got to go with the authorities. Members jhphoto
And yet he was added to the sexual predator "watch list" or whatever...sounds fishy to me... "As a statutory consequence of accepting the caution, Townshend was entered on the Violent and Sex Offender Register for five years." - from the wikipedia article on Pete. apparently his name is to be stricken off the record sometime before the superbowl anyway. The fact is, by admission, the man accessed child porn. As a result, he has been added to the sexual offender registry. These people are upset to see a sex offender play the super bowl. Debate this issue all you like, but for GODS SAKE STOP trying to pretend the man is not a registered offender. The registry disagrees with you. Members KwadGuy
I love this part: A spokesperson for the organization questions the need for live rock and roll stars at the event. "This is a family event, and most of the available rock megastars have hardly led a family friendly life. At most sporting events, it is enough to stick to pre-recorded sports rock classics like Sweet Caroline and Rock and Roll (Part 2), and we don't see why that can't be what they do here as well." Members jhphoto
you better edit the wikipedia article then... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_Townshend Consequently, the police offered a caution rather than pressing charges, issuing a statement: "After four months of investigation by officers from Scotland Yard's child protection group, it was established that Mr Townshend was not in possession of any downloaded child abuse images." If you notice, he had received a caution because he (according to the source) did acknowlege visting a website that advertised child porn. different than downloading it... at any rate he wasn't charged and will soon be off the list so this group can take their 15 minutes and shove it. Members Arr0wHead
You're quoting wikipedia as a resource? Again, you're trying way too hard to defend this guy. You ever seen an ad for a porn site? Lotta words? A few killer descriptive metaphors? Or were there lots and lots of PICTURES.

Members DarkHorseJ27
I'm not exactly a big fan of football, but I don't want to see someone who is sexually aroused by children to play the half-time show.
Members Vintage55
It's about music....that's what they're being paid to create at the Super Bowl. None of the rest has much of anything to do with the song(s) they'll play at halftime. It's not like he's going to moleste some kid on stage... Members Into Nation
To quote the article: Townshend, who said he had been sexually abused as a child, admitted using his credit card to access the site in 1999, but said he was conducting research for his autobiography. He pleaded guilty and received a "caution" from police that allowed him to avoid trial. His name went on a British sex offenders' watch list until 2008. It's 2010 now, correct? The PC world has some reasonable points but this isn't one of them. The guy accessed a child porn site, nothing on his computer, no child harmed, no issues for 11 YEARS. Should we forget the former 40 or so years the guy was a part of forming rock? Please weigh what HE DID rather than what you THINK he did.
