Any of you Americans following the weather here in UK......Enough to freeze the frets off a Strat!!!!

Snow and ice everywhere. Thousands of schools closed , huge disruptions. Worst for 20years. Worse to come apparently this weekend.

Damn right.

As described elsewhere, it's already cost our band, Crosstown Lightnin', a gig booked for Sunday ... even if we were able to get there over iced-up roads and through the heavy forecast snowfall, our drummer's marooned in New York and the venue's decided not to open because the audience would be staying home and keeping warm ...

Write a nice letter to that arrogant blowhard, Albert Gore, reminding him of how the earth is drastically warming up and we are all going to boil to death if we are not taxed to death first.

A little more on topic...yes Europe is getting hammered by arctic weather, and since most citizens have succumbed to the Global Warming brainwashing they are perplexed. Well, get used to it, because the planet is entering a very cool period and things are only going to get worse.

A lot more on topic...if you have some arthritis, like I have, the very last thing you need is playing in any cold environment. I need a nice warm place for my fingers to relax and try to work.

+1 It's costing me a fortune in heating costs to keep my guitars from warping/contracting in minus 10 degree temps.

Well, you could always be like us - we're having a major snowstorm at the present time (my work commute took me 20 minutes longer than usual, due to the snow). By the time the storm is done tonight, it's supposed to dum up to a foot of the white stuff on us. Then, nice toasty warm temps by Friday (a low of 3F [-16C]). Such is life on the frozen tundra of Wisconsin. :D

to the anti-global warming peeps: The fact that it is currently colder doesn't prove anything against global warming, which is measured over longer time and the trend is still that the overall climate is continuing to warm.

In fact, it is to be expected that it gets colder as melting polar ice means that the seas will initially become slightly colder (the gulfstream for one will disappear)

Here in Laaaaaandaaaaan town, the sky is blue, the sun is shining ... and our heating is working flat-out to keep the flat just above utterly shiversome.

Outside it's all Winter Wonderland and a slippery mix of ice and snow.

That's the thing the global warming deniers seem to forget...it's, er, global. So the fact that it migt be colder than normal where a particular person is doesn't mean global warming isn't happening.

Anyway enough of that...bloody cold here in East Anglia too. Not as much snow as other places though, but the minor roads are very icy.

WOK: I have done my own original research on this topic for the last year, free from politics of the left or right, and, since 1998, the earth has cooled EVERY YEAR. That's a simple, measurable fact. The oceans have not risen a fraction of a millimeter, and in fact, most glaciers have been getting larger/thicker instead of melting. Since 2006, when Albert's scary propaganda movie came out, the average global temperature has fallen by a whopping .75 degrees F. The IPCC predictions and conclusions are based on a very badly formulated and data-filtered computer model, and even the output of that model has been manipulated to show warming trends where none exist.

We may very well be entering another Younger Dryas type event, in which case humanity is in for a very rocky ride indeed.

If you do your own research with an open mind, I believe you will come to similar conclusions. I have no political agenda, except that I really don't like the financial and political elites telling me how to live my own life, or trying to scare me into paying higher taxes so that they can use that money to further their own selfish, huris-based global power grab.

OK -- end of rant.

I'd say that half the "problem" with the weather in the UK is that people just don't know how to dress up against the cold. So many times I meet people complaining about the cold. I ask them if they've put on any long underwear or similar, and they act like that's some sort of ridiculous, stupid, suggestion. I've just been outside, and was toasty warm in my long underwear, coat, hat, gloves, and hiking socks. Other countries have far colder temperatures, and far more snow, but just seem to get on with it. Snow chains on cars anyone? Shoes with snow and ice grips anyone? Nope, here things just close down.

I hate to think what your typical Scandinavian thinks of us.

what kind of 'research' have you been doing exactly?

This is just the first link i pulled up

my own opinion is is that Global Warming is happening. To what extent humans are contributing to this is still open for debate and study. However i think that investing in cleaner energy and finding ways to protect the enviroment is essential to guarantee a habitable earth for future generations :idk:
