Fender TRRI for a Rivera era Fender concert.

Would you do it?

Why or why not.

Both amps are in good shape.

Probably fair trade but what are you looking for, twin sound or super sound? I don't have much experience with that year of Concert. You may want to ask on the Fender forums.

I like the idea of a channel switching amp.

It adds more to the circuit. The reason a Twin sounds like is because of the simplicity. You can always get a AB and make your Twin switchable.

Rivera era Fenders have a reputation. Test it out and then decide. But for a trade I don't think you're going to do wrong as long as they are in the same condition.

What sort of reputation?

Hey guys... he's talking about trading a reissue twin... Not a Silverface or a Blackface.

I have a Twin II which is the Rivera take on the Twin. I never use the gain, but the non-gain sounds an awful lot like a Twin. I previously owned a 73 Silverface and I've compared it to a TRRI, a non-MV Silverface and a MV-Silverface and I'd say they all have their differences, but they are pretty damn similar.

I think my take is, I think that right now, you'll be getting the short end of the deal financially speaking, but on a 20 year time frame, the TRRI is only going to drop in value while the Concert will raise slightly. It it was a Twin II or a Deluxe II, I'd say go for it without hesitation.

Is the concert the 2x10 or the 1x12?

I don't know... I'd think some cash should come your way... $200 or $300.

Nothing wrong with the TRRI. Sounds good, plenty of volume for any reasonable use.

On the other hand... if you look forward 20 years, would you rather have a PCB based omp basically throw together or a point to point, hand-wired amp?

One's not better than the other but I consider the Rivera-era stuff to be better than the current reissues.

Just seems like as of right now,a little money should be coming your way.

I traded a 1983 4x10 Concert for a new-in-box tweed Blues Jr + $200 last year. There isn't any kind of amp shortage at Casa Furtive, and I wasn't interested in lugging the Concert down 3 flights of stairs any more.

Twin and Rivera Concert are two different things. Concert is very flexible (I've had my 1x12 for nearly 13 years), and sounds excellent with a great speaker (EV SRO) and good tubes.

I've played through both. A re-issue Twin Reverb and a friend's Concert with that big old 12 ( looks like an EV ). To my ears, the Twin sounded fuller and warmer with my 335. They were/are both heavy. I tried the overdrive on the Concert and it sounded bad to me. Maybe I didn't get the EQ set well. The Concert was thin and fizzy sounding whereas the Twin was full and fat, at least the ones I played. I'd prefer the Twin with good pedals. Start with a big, clean, pedal friendly platform and go from there.
