Members csm
On an SG Custom instead of a Strat, yet. Funny, he still sounds just like Jimi Hendrix ... (Noel R's tone isn't exactly a fabulous ad for Marshall bass amps, though.)

Members rusholmeruffian
(Noel R's tone isn't exactly a fabulous ad for Marshall bass amps, though.) Do you like Jack Bruce's tone on the live disc of Wheels of Fire? Pretty much an identical rig AFAIK.
Members csm
^^^^^^ in reverse order: Yes, it was ... and no, i don't, particularly. A little growl on a bass is cool, a massive fart not so much.

I tend to side with what Joe Satriani said about Hendrix: "There was no THE Hendrix tone. Hendrix just sounded like Hendrix" no matter what he was playing. Frets99
When I see him play this focused and intense, it's just a beautiful thing.
Members Cliff Fiscal
I have an SG similar to that one.... Old HBs most definitely do not sound like modern HBs.

Members brandass
I've heard many better versions that they did, several from that tour alone, but it's cool to see them in action, especially Redding, usually he's firmly stuck in the back seat. Wish Hendrix had broken out in a searing solo as he usually did, a lot of the over-the-top antics had been jettisoned by that point so it'd be fun to see the contrast between a balls-out rip-snortin' solo and the more constrained body language. I'm sure this will send me to youtube later today...
Members RickBeall
Anything with Hendrix in it is cool, just 'cause its Hendrix and he was so great. Other than that, the sound quality is poor, in places you can't hear what he is playing, all you can hear is the base. What he plays is not particulary great, but that's cool, this is like watching him practice in his basement. Interesting nevertheless.
