I'm not holding my breath. Either these will be demo quality rough copies of songs or tracks finished posthumous neither which I'm too excited about. Also, this deal has been put together by Janie Hendrix. The same woman responsible for the Hendrix signature guitar from Gibson leading me to believe this is nothing but a money grab...

This should be fun.

The late musician's half-sister is overseeing the release of a 'new' album of previously unreleased material.

Remember, she was behind the Gibson Hendrix signature guitar too. ;)

I picked up "Burning Desire" last year and it was pretty cool. A bunch of studio takes, lots of loose jamming, but it was still cool and the sound quality was better than a lot of the bootleg-style stuff that came out years ago ("Hear My Music" and "The Natural Collection"). Not something I listen to all the time, but I enjoy it. This sounds similar, but a little more song-focusses. It's not going to be "First Rays of the New Rising Sun," don't expect anythign too polished, but for Hendrix buffs it could be a cool listen. Thanks for the link!

Nice to see Eddie Kramer and Billy Cox are involved.

Well, according to the official press release I received this morning, it's ...

Official press releases are cobbled together by PR folks whose job it is to make even the most unpalatable dreck sell, so I'll wait for clips...

Nevertheless, at least the tracks are of legitimate provenance, and Eddie Kramer (Hendrix's fave engineer) has given them a thorough wash and brush-up.

Obviously, we'll have to hear them to know whether they're great or not, but I think it's safe to assume that they're not badly-recorded bootleg dreck.

I have really low expectations of this (law of diminishing returns and all that).

For someone who had a recording career (of his own) of around 3/4 years, I think his studio output was stellar (Experienced, Axis and Ladyland). I went through the Hendrix is God and I must buy everything phase and ended up with 50 or so albums. There is some REAL {censored} out there.

I'd say you could buy the 3 above albums plus Cry of Love, Jimi Hendrix Concerts, Soundtrack of the Jimi Hendrix documentary film, Jimi plays Monterey and Radio One Sessions and not be missing out on much else.

To think those recordings came from 3/4 years is amazing, but I can hear the bottom of the barrel being scraped
