That's the first thing I noticed, as well, is the quality & density of the flame in the neck & the back.The neck is much darker than the back wood, which would indicate to me that it's been played a lot...which could possibly indicate that it may be a quality instrument. You'd think they'd at least have the decency to give it to a music school or a local school's music department. Money can really turn some people into self-centered, stupid {censored}s.
