1976, the year in music. Has there ever been a year like this before or since?

It was a great year to be alive. I was 13 and skateboarding all over the neighborhood. Didn't toys in the attic come out in 76 or 77?

Fusion was huge in 76 also. - Stanley Clarke, Al DiMeola, Return to Forever, Jean Luc Ponty were some of the artists my older friends were turning me onto.

Btw - I like disco. My sister younger sister used to play it all over the house. It wasn't cool to say you liked disco if you were a rocker back in the day. However some off those productions were amazing for their time. It was when disco and funk started getting sampled into hip hop that I didn't like.

I have to say that, for me, you don't have to look far to find a better year than 1976. Take a look at 1977:

Television - Marquee Moon
Elvis Costello - My aim is true
Bowie - Heroes
Ian Dury and the Blockheads - New boots & Panties
Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks
The Clash - The Clash
Iggy Pop - Lust for life
Talking heads - '77

Realtree, did you have to post the original album cover of Virgin Killer? Some of us occasionally glance at this forum during work, and a boss walking by and seeing something like that could get someone fired in a heartbeat.

It's an extremely distasteful album cover, by the way.

Edited for clarity.

Not a great year in music, IMHO. Rock really turned soft, bland, and predictable for the most part. Even 1975 saw better stuff:

Blow by Blow - Jeff Beck
Free Hand - Gentle Giant
The Hissing of Summer Lawns - Joni Mitchell
Masque - Kansas
Physical Graffiti - Led Zeppelin
Toys in the Attic - Aerosmith
The Tubes - The Tubes
Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd

Nice thread. :thu: Definitely a good year to be a 19 year old!

We were partying with Aerosmith, Foghat, BTO, Purple, and ZZ, just to name a few. As someone mentioned, most of us hated disco vehemently in those days, but ironically, I have come to tolerate, and even like some of those old travesties in my old age! Probably a nostalgia thing! I even like some country music now.

Cheers!

1976 - some good stuff, and some not so good stuff IMO. Corny soft rock and bubble gum rock like Captain and Tenille, Bay City Roller, and Bread. Cool stuff like new albums released by Judas Priest, Motorhead, The Nuge, and Rush. Oh yeah and don't forget this one "Toys In The Attic" was released in 1975). IMO, it's one of the best albums Aerosmith released.

Somewhere in the Chicago area (don't remember if it was comiskey park) I saw Peter Frampton, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gary Wright and Yes in July. For some reason toke.gif, I don't remember much about the concert, but folks I went with assured me it was great and i had a good time... :rawk:
