I'm just curious about the masses on HC. I wanna know what and how you play, and how old you are.

I use a 58 Reissue Les Paul VOS or an American Standard Strat with Texas Specials. I run my guitars into a Matchless DC/30 (sometimes I use an HC/30 with a Marshall cabinet). My effects are a Tube Screamer TS-808 for the Strat, a Zendrive overdrive for the Les Paul and a Boss reverb pedal (there's no reverb on my DC/30).

I'm 28 years old. I play blues/rock/soul with a jazz vibe. I feel that I'm a very compentant player but, every time I hear my heroes play, I get rightfully put in my place (that's a good thing). I play live all the time.

Your turn!

I'm 20, I literally play all genres. I start my 2-3 hour of guitar playing with some jazz/funk progressions, playing the progressions back in my head as I throw down some snazzy leads. Then it will turn into light crunch blues chords, like above with the leads, then I throw it in drop D and play some Lamb of God style riffs for about 30-40 minutes, then I will bust out the metronome and work the chops, and i throw in some 80's power metal riffing in there somewhere usually.

see sig....+diamond compressor, keeley modded voodoo labs sparkle drive, boss DS-1, retroman sybil, couple passive and active EB VP Jr. for expression pedals & pre-effects and post-effects/preamp volume

i play every style i can... (except metal)... mostly throwing down a progression on the jam man and then playing lead over it.. trying to get alot more into jazz and more complex chording

i am not very good...

i play 99% of the time through my partscaster strat with lace senor blue silver red > mesa electradyne clean > m13 (delay and verb)...

my other two main guitars are american deluxe strat with dimarzio area 58/58/61 and an epi LP studio with DiMarzio Virtual PAF/Virtual Hot PAF

forgot to add... i am 29

Fender Hot Rod DeVille (though working on an Orange Rocker 30, or some smaller wattage head + 1x12 setup)

Lots of guitars, though the Epiphone Riviera is my main now. Got a slew of Eastwood guitars through a sponsorship, my favorite being the Town & Country.

Pedalboard is a work in progress. Right now, a BOSS TU-2, Lovepedal Kanji, Lovepedal Les Lius, Fuzz War, and working on getting an Electro Harmonix Cathedral reverb pedal.

I'm 21 years old, I've been in several touring bands, both of which played some variation of punk rock, the former was Lawrence Arms-esque, the latter was folk-punk with some blues influence. Currently doing a big studio project with several local artists. The record overall will be more like noise pop with the usual punk rock sensibility.

My skill is pretty novice. I'm constantly learning, and being put in my place.

Cool thread! :thu:

I'm 56.

I favor my 1969 Gibson 335 through a 50 watt Marshall w/4 25 watt Greenbacks; a McInturff Empress through a Bogner Shiva w/a 2x12 oversized Boger cab; PRS McCarty through a Groove Tubes Soul O 75 or a Chet Atkins Country Gent through an Ambassador 35 watt 2x12 combo. I have a few guitars to chose from.

I rarely use fx except for a Visual Sound H20 pedal. I finger fumble my way with a Dobro M33 every now and then. My favorite acoustic is a Gibson J 185 or Gibson L 20 Koa.

My style is a morph of Dicky Betts/Leslie West (ask Brian Krashpad).

I'm relearning 40 + years of guitar playing after having Ulnar Nerve Transposition sugery on my left elbow 2 years ago. It takes up to 3 years to heal. Some days I can't play what I learned in my first 6 months because of hand cramps/artritis.

These days I'm concentrating on solo wedding/cocktail hour gigs.

Still having fun.

I'm 36. I'm more or less an experimental player, though I can fake my way through most genres of music.

I just find the ground between blues, jazz, country and rock to be well-worn, so why not do my own thing

I use whatever gear is available, but I favor my Squier butterscotch Tele.

I haven't played live in over a year.

I'm 36. I'm in a band that plays 90s-ish emo (think Texas is the Reason, Sunny Day Real Estate, Samiam, etc). I play a Les Paul Standard through a Mesa Tremoverb. Outside of the band, I play a little of everything, though I don't play nearly as much at home as I do when I'm with the band. I can usually play whatever it is I'm hearing in my head, which is great for songwriting. As far as being a technician goes, there's still lots of room for improvement.

Im 51, been playing or trying to play since 1968. My first real amp was a 1973Marshall JMP 50 watt half stack played thru either a LesPaul custom or an SG standard. I used them until the mid 90s. I started playing in bands again in 96 until about 2005. My main gear for the last 16 yrs has been an old Ibanez Roadstar 440 into a rack that consists of a Peavey TG Raxx single channel preamp,an ADA MP1 preamp and a very old Zoom 9150 rack mount preamp/efx unit thru a Peavey Clasic 60/60 poweramp. I have a Peavey Classic 2/12 cab and a Randall slant 2/12 cab. For a backup I use/have a PeaveyUltra 120 plus head modded/biased with EL34s. Back up guitars are 3 Hamer SATFs modded with either Duncans or DiMarzio's and an RG350 with a DiMarzio DP 100 in the bridge.

Main influences were Zeppelin,Creedence,Deep Purple,ZZ Top,Alice Cooper,Johnny Cash,T Rex, Pat Travers,Eric Clapton,Pink Floyd,Montrose and Jeff Beck. Oh and I play kinda ok:wave:

im 18

i use an eip v loaded with EMG 60 in the neck and an 85 in the bridge. i also use a Fender MIM tele. i also have guitar rig 4 on my macbook. use a Boss ME-50 with a vox AD50VT. i have bought ALL my gear i use myself. macbook, guitars (4 of em) and the amp. i make good money for a highschool job but GAS along with a girlfriend hasn't left much for me. haha. so its not the best stuff in the world, but it works for me.

i play everything from jazz to metal. all on a V too so its funny to bust out a jazz standard on a V loaded with EMGs in it. haha.

i have played in a few bands and love it.

I'm 27. I have lots of gear - most days I'm playing my Gilmour strat or Bill Lewis guitar through a crap ton of effects into my vintage Hiwatt and vintage Yamaha RA200... Can you tell what I do? Yes, I play in a tribute act.

When I'm doing my own stuff, it's my Historic R4 into fewer effects and then a small Fender amp of some description.

I am certainly above average, but not the best - if that means anything. My biggest talent is being able to figure out how other people play; so I'm a very good mimic. This, along with a great sense of "touch" serves me well with my tribute act, obviously.

I'm 20. My gear fa-ha-ha-haaaaar exceeds my ability. I favor a 58 RI Les Paul through an AC30 with minimal effects - mostly the odd modulation. I'm currently trying to do something of a folksy rock kinda sound, I guess? I dunno how to describe it. I want a violinist or violist in my next band, maybe horns. I want to branch out from the "guitar, bass, drums" thing.

I play live, but I haven't in two months. My last band was grunge / hard rock, which is still fun to play, but I don't feel it's "my thing," you know?

I'm 23. I play stupid blues rock stuff, but im trying to branch my current band more into funk. I dig funk and jazz, and can fake my way through a jazz progression or two, but im completely incompetent. Sometimes I think im getting decent, but im not really.

I play an xaviere tele thinline copy and an ibanez AK85 hollowbody. Its the one with the single cutaway and a floating wood bridge. The ibanez was my first "real" guitar and I got it because I love acoustic music and found it to be right in the middle in terms of tone. A pick up change let me get the nice woody, warm tones in the neck pickup and some gretsch like twang from the bridge. Surprisingly nice reggae tones. I got the tele to throw down some some bright single coil funk tones.

I play through a peavey delta blues 2x10 which needs needs some new tubes and the sockets cleaned (I hope that's all it needs). I have a rocktron wah, mini q-tron auto wah, and a rocktron compressor that I want to get rid of and trade for something.... more useful. I dunno, I have to run it with the whole set up again. I need an OD pedal, Fuzz pedal and delay.

I'm 48. I'm a singer/songwriter who likes guitars. I used to describe my style of music in awkward, vague "country-rock" or "Americana" type terms. Somebody recently described it as Very Loud Folk. I like that much better.

Purely as a guitarist - let's just say that after decades of perseverance I'm about as good as I thought I was in 1986.

style... all over the board. My roots are punk rock, but from reggae, country, death metal, hip hop ... Ive played it all and love it all.

too much gear to name. Somewhere in the 20 plus range of guitars. Mostly Les Pauls and Telecasters. Wide range at that too, ranging from my original 59 Les Paul jr to a chopped up squier tele.

Im on a bit of an amp kick right now, and am switching between a bogner uberschall, marshall vint mod, and vox night train.

I think I suck at guitar.

I see myself more as somebody who writes music that just happens to use a guitar to do it.

I just happen to love guitars (and amps)!

--Turned 18 in October.

--Have been learning and playing seriously for about two and a half years now, and though I dunno if I'd call myself good or not I consider myself decent and competent in regards to rock, blues, folkish stuff, countryish stuff, probably feeling most comfortable in rock and blues, having gotten to the point where I can join in with someone on a song I don't know if I watch what they're doing.

--As far as gear goes, I've got a fair amount of stuff via gifts and stuff I bought myself. Guitars are a modded Epiphone Dot Studio (GFS Mean 90s, additional switching options) and a partscaster my dad and I put together, basic Strat with some minor mods (also have a Harmony Broadway archtop acoustic, but this is Electric Guitar forum). Two amps, an Epiphone Valve Jr. head for smaller places, and a Fender Stage 112 SE that was passed along to me and which I use when more volume's needed. Also recently purchased a Tech 21 Sansamp Blonde, not sure how I plan on using that just yet. Pedals, my main board runs Devi Ever Hyperion (fuzz) > BBE Soul Vibe (Univibe-ish thing) > Boss OD-1 > Morley volume pedal > Ibanez DE-7 delay. That was more than I expected to type.

i'm 25 and i've been playing since i was 18

the only guitar i have at the moment is an ibanez sa160... the first guitar i ever bought...i've had and sold and gibson SG standard...deluxe tele...few squires...had everything from 30 roland cube to a marshall half stack...to a hand wired renyolds tube amp...

i dont even have an amp at the moment

i used to play alot...and pretty much only scales...so im sort of fast but consequently i'm {censored} at writing songs...i can stand on the side lines and play the progression and throw licks and stuff in as long as someone else has written the song....

but i'm trying to rectify this...slowly!

22, 23 in a couple of weeks. For gear, see my sig.

Genre of music I play... pretty much anything to do with rock. Grew up listening to Punk and the whole Pop-Punk thing (before the Fallout Boy and Emo invasion). These days I've mellowed out and play some Coldplay and Jack Johnson here and there. But I still whip out the old three chord jams now and then.

In terms of skill and ability well... my roots are in punk rock. 'nuff said.

Fifteen, sixteen next month (man, a lot of us have birthdays next month!)

You know, it's funny. Mainly, I listen to the old stuff, but my favourite band is Muse, haha. But, mainly, it's stuff like Dire Straits, AC/DC, Rush, Clapton, Jeff Beck, maybe a bit of Zeppelin... basically all the stuff any classic rocker would go on about. I also love Stevie Ray Vaughan - I've only heard Cold Shot and his cover of Superstition, and a couple of others, but I've loved every song I've heard from him so far.

As for skill? Meh. I can't really come up with a great riff, or melody, in my head. Nothing like Plug In Baby or Sultans of Swing. But I haven't trained my ear or learnt the fretboard note positions yet (though I'm working on it, so that gives me hope). However, I constantly keep coming up with these great fifties rock 'n roll style solos and licks, and can improvise these in my head for ages. Same with rock and hair metal (!) solos over backing tracks. I just wish I could get it onto the guitar.

Plus I think my technique could be better... but hey, I have a lifetime of playing ahead of me (I hope!)

Hello, I'm Joe, and i'm an alchoholic... :thu:

Nah, but I'm 17, been playing for about 4 years now. My main setup now is:

Squier Telecaster Std >> Boss TU-3 (Not currently working - I don't have a 9v power supply, and it EATS batteries) >> Vox Pathfinder 15R (Hopefully upgrading to a Vox AC4TV soon!). I consider myself to be a fairly good player, although I do prefer playing solo, not in a group (...). I mainly play rock and blues... but sometimes I wander into the realms of Jazz and country.. :thu:
