What to do when high E string is much softer than rest of strings?

The high E string on my hollowbody is softer amplified than the rest of the strings on the guitar. What should I do.. raise that side of the pickup closer to the high E string? Is this a common problem?

doesn't it have pole screws? Have you tried going a gauge or two heavier on the high E?

You said hollowbody, so I would assume you either have humbuckers or p90s in the guitar. If the rest of the strings are balanced sounding, then just adjust the screw in the pickup on that string.
