Members ArpeggiateTHIS
It's black vs sunburst, unless you can come up with some other sweet ideas... It'll be American Standard w/ maple neck either way (unless I can source a sweet V-neck deluxe). Option 1: Black with tortoiseshell. Option 2: Sunburst with tortoiseshell. Option 3: Sunburst with black p-ups and knobs.
Members EJD
Option 3, without a doubt. I'm doing that myself right now, but it's HSS and the body is Surf Green

Surf green IS tasty, but I hope it's a maple neck you've got on that thing!
Members lowbatt65
Option 3. Option 1 is pretty sexy, but sunburst with a white scratchplate is sex on a stick. I don't like option 2 at all.

Members clay sails
I'm not a fan of white pickguards. (I'm a pickguard racist.) Black w/tortoise looks best of the choices you are considering. I'd do TV yellow with black knobs and pups if I had a choice.
Members Bara
Black + Tort is my ideal strat setup. It needs to be a good red tort though.
Members ArpeggiateTHIS
Black w/tort.But then, I'm prejudiced ... Thing with black tort is that if I ever get bored with it, and decide to revert to stock, I'm stuck with black on white pickguard. I'm REALLY not a fan of black w/ white pickguard guitars. Members metal0822
you could always go with aged pearloid on black if you get sick of the tortoise. i love the aged pearloid pickguards, especially with black pickups and knobs.

Definitely. I think that aged/cream pearloid with black plastics on a vintage white is one of my favorite color combos. I've done two that way and love them both:
