Members fu2jobu
IMO, As a musician you should not give any publicity to anything related to American Idol. The fact that I have even heard about the 'song' makes my soul hurt.
Members DaveAronow
Have Y'all seen the Jimmy Fallon "Neal Young" cover of it he did on his show? I was thinkingabout something with an original melody line maybe ALA Hank Jr. or such. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nv9Q7HkgI-gNv9Q7HkgI-g

Members Nightwatchman9270
Seems like a lot of his audience didn't "get it".....or think it was funny...same thing really. You probably run that risk too, although I think a faster tempo country version would work better anyway.
Members JohnnyDD
If you do the occasional nutty song and your audience knows this go for it. Otherwise, no. Also you run the risk of nobody knowing wtf it's referring to.

Yes, true, but this phenomenon gains more traction everyday. Im sure it will wear itself out pretty much in the next week or so if it even lasts that long but it is getting quite a bit of publicity, including Brett Favrs recent "cover" in the lockerroom. It is one of those things though that is mildly amusing only the first time or two you see it and then you are over it. ONmEVro8Fog
Members Elias Graves
My brother's rock band covers the Gourds cover of Gin and Juice. Its a rock n roll version of a bluegrass version of a rap song. The audience loved it. I say try it. If it bombs, don't do it again. EG

Members Tidal Rhythm
I would avoid it. When a comedy bit falls flat - and I'm not saying it will, just that it might - it can overshadow the rest of your performance. The risk is someone who is unfamiliar with your band seeing you for the first time and thinking "they're not funny at all" and bringing that perception with them if they see you again in the future. Members Special J
I guess I failed to see the humor in it to begin with, so I fail to see why anybody would continue to find it funny.

Members ten56gibby
Depends. What are the odds that potential concert goers are American Idol viewers? btw - to all that are saying it's been done... bull{censored}. The joke isn't even a week old. Nobody is too cool for a joke that's not even a week old yet.

Members ten56gibby
Normally I'd agree about Jimmy Fallon's unfunniness. But I thought his Neil Diamond cover of it was pretty lolworthy.
