Members crowguitar
BillM has a little page about modding the Pro Junior and talks about all the inherent problems the amp has. Even tho its a decent amp, there's alot of issues that tons of owners bring up. To switch it over to 6L6's pretty much involves taking the ENTIRE Amp apart and starting from scratch. Not worth it. It would actually be cheaper and more time/money efficient to buy a new amp altogether.
Members bsman
At low volumes, PJs have a lovely, clean, blusy/jazzy tone. In a band context (turned up past 3 or so) they have a substantial helping of grit that gets more pronounced as you dial in more volume. Past a certain point, you don't really get much more volume, just more dirt. I find it a useful amp for my purposes, because at bedroom volumes I can get clean, dirt (w/an overdrive or distortion pedal, which it takes beautifully). However, if you want clean at gigging volumes, forget it.
Members Ancient Mariner
Can I just swap in the 12 ay7 without changing anything else? Yes.
Members twisty571
try the good fellas here: http://www.ppwatt.com/forumhonestly I think it would be A LOT easier to do to a Valve Jr. instead. or get the Valve Senior:thu:
Members doc oc
Maybe one of those new attenuated speakers from eminence.I bet that would tame some of the harsh high end.
Members mrbrown49
I'd start with a regular speaker change unless you really want to cut the output ass well, though a less efficient speaker will also make a difference there. Another thing you can look into is building a larger cab for it, or running an external cab. That will really open up the amp and make it sound bigger. It may even help with your high end issues some.
Members Ancient Mariner
When I suggested the Cannabis Rex above I was quite serious. I popped one in a 2 channel amp I have that was overly bright, replacing a vintage G12H. It's really tamed the highs and smoothed the amp out nicely. Still sparkles, but no more brain-darts. Oh, one cheap fix you could try: get some 1" foam and line the inside of the cab. You don't necessarily have to even glue it in just to try out, but just cut it a little oversize and wedge it in. I've used that to take piercing highs out of cabs very successfully. Too much and it gets a bit muddy, but just the right amount will just smooth that top end out. Members Wyatt
Keep in mind a Pro Jr uses a 10" in a very tight cabinet. I don't even think every 10" will fit, but a 12" CRex definitely won't.
Members Ancient Mariner
Ah, thanks - I'd though it was a 12"er. In that case the 'lil buddy is similar to the C Rex, but in 10" flavour. That'll be the one.

I still think this a good suggestion, but of course it would mean rehousing the chassis in a bigger cab or using an external cab. IMO, the pro could benefit from a larger cab anyhow. Someone posted this the other day...A little pricey but it may be worth it if the OP really likes the amp. http://www.tonedog.com/pro_junior_1x12_upgrade.html
