Members guitarboyled
As anyone tested out these two guitars? How do they compare? Neck, Playability, Quality of woods, Assembly, Pickups, etc. Obviously talking about the SG Epi Elitist
Members guitarboyled
Also what about the Epiphone SG's made in Japan (before the Elitist)

Members tkachuk07
Ok so how do the Epiphone LP Elitist compare to the Gibson LP They're good guitars & compare well. The biggest difference is the Elitist's have poly finishes vs nitro for Gibson.
Members ExiledCrow
I think the consensus boils down to: There is no real difference (without going into the whole poly/nitro thing ... again) except headstock, name, and price and that's why Gibson killed that line. Members BlueSteam
I compared the SG Elitist to a Gibson Standard at a Guitar Center a couple years ago and there was a huge difference... not necessarily in build quality, but in richness/fullness of the sound. Guitars and setups vary, I know, but the difference in my experiment was alarming. Keep in mind this was when I was a Fender guy exclusively. Members Mister Crow
I had the Epi Elitist model. After playing the Gibson '61 version at GC, I'd say the neck is much nicer on the Gibson model. Fuller and wider feeling. I like the Epi Elitist 61 model, but it had a very thin neck, IMO. I sold mine.

Members ExiledCrow
Yes, but what if you like a thin neck?
Members ExiledCrow
headstock, name, price, wood, neck profile, finish, hardware, pickups, case, etc... So just being a dick? I already said headstock, name, price, and finish. And case kinda goes without saying, since at the very least it will a different name on it, which brings me back to what I ALREADY said. So maybe you should just stick with the things I neglected to mention?
Members Yogi_Sizzle
Actually the Elitist has Gibson Hardware and pickups, not the same pickups as the 61 reissue, but Gibson pickups nontheless
Members Goofball Jones
The SG 61 reissue is quite a bargain...even for the price. 57 Classic pups, long tenon neck etc etc. And yes, it does have the long tenon neck...several people have pulled their neck pup out and taken photos. Actually, with the thin neck that goes all the way down to the body like it does, it has to have the support of a long tenon.
Members Mister Crow
While I liked my Elitist SG 61 Reissue, just spending 15 minutes with the Gibson 61 Reissue at GC I could tell the two guitars were in different classes. The Gibson sounded and felt much better, to me, and felt more solid.
