Members Woody_in_MN
I have a local guy that obviously knows nothing about guitars, but wants to sell me a 1) Silvertone model SS-11/CBL 2) Peavey Rockmaster guitar and amp package for $140 for all 3 items. I researched the Rockmaster, and it is a basic starter packge that sold new for $90 and up. But the Silvertone has got me interested. The silvertone gets rave reviews. I am not a strat guy at all, but maybe I could flip this and make a few bucks. What do you guys think about the deal? - w
Members crawfish
If I'm not mistaken, that is one of the newer Silvertone models!!! Those sell around here (Phoenix area) for between $75 and $100 on CL.
Members prolog
I got a Silvertone SS-11 starter pack in 2007. It didn't sound very good, and played poorly. With a good setup, it plays very well, and a pickup (and amp!) swap replaced the sound issues. But that would be true of almost any guitar. Put Fralins or Fender CSs in the cheapest Squier, and trade an awful practice amp for a C30, and it'll sound great. So, I love my Silvertone, but I would have moral issues selling a stock one to a beginner. It's got the standard set of cheapass guitar issues that are liable to make someone quit playing. Members Woody_in_MN
If I did the deal I would just take the Silvertone, and offer $70 for that - which is pretty close to what Squire Starts sell for on CL. I think I am going to pass. Thanks guys, - w
