Members whiteop
Single coils with more treble, raising the treble side up (press down on last fret and adjust bass side to 3/32 and treble side to 3/64 then fine tune from there), 500K Pots or more, changing the capacitor values to a lower value would do it, other than that I dont' know anything that will significantly change the tone except for the wood... Members EADGBE
Try some of these. One of the best and fastest mods you can do.
Members 1001gear
Lower the pickups down to the plate if you can.
Moderators Ratae Corieltauvorum Posted February 1, 2010 Moderators Share Posted February 1, 2010 Hey so I'm trying to find some things I can do to my strat to make it brighter. Paint it yellow, can't believe nobody has mentioned that so far. i used to have a black Strta that was really quite dark, so I tried white and then yellow and yellow worked great
Members treedroppings
I think if you turn all the neck screws loose half a turn and then re-tighten them half a turn, it makes the neck tighter with the body. I think you can hear them make a click sound when that happens. Also, they might need to be turned until they feel tight, which should be 'approximately' a half-turn or just slightly more! If it doesn't work, blame thegearpage.net but I liked the minor improvement!
Members treedroppings
Also, someone once said if you take the pickups out and somehow mount them directly to the body, it can improve the sustain. You still have to have the pickguard but just get longer screws, springs, machine threads for the body? I've never done that.
Moderators Ratae Corieltauvorum Posted February 1, 2010 Moderators Share Posted February 1, 2010 Really, if you wish for quality help we'd need to know what pickups, pots, cap etc is under the pickguard first. Without solid details it's all stabbing in the dark
Members fretmonster
Honestly, the best thing you can do to improve it's tone (brighter - more clarity) considering that it is a HWY one, is to replace the pot metal trem block with one made of steel and replace the plastic nut with one made of bone or tusq. It will still sound like a Strat (not an SG) but it will sound like a good one. Here's one: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Fender-Mexican-Import-STEEL-Trem-Tremolo-Block-Kit_W0QQitemZ400100317990QQcmdZViewItemQQptZGuitar_Accessories?hash=item5d27d65b26 Be sure to check string and bolt measurements as they vary sometimes. There are also some brass blocks listed which of course would make your Strat even brighter (too much for me).

I think from reading most of the posts here he has a 57 Classic at the bridge, but I don't get trying to make a Strat sound like an SG anyway. Me either. If you want an SG, get an SG. You can't make a strat sound like an SG for numerous reasons, not the least of which are wood and scale length. Members csm
Wowsers -- gots to say this is a first. How to make a Strat BRIGHTER? Most people who aren't comfortable with the way their Strats sound want to make them fatter and richer. (There are worse things to be these days than fat and rich ...) Members Umbra
Put a -3db eq shelf at about 600hz to cut the low end a bit. It will make the guitar brighter and cost you $0.
Members mrbrown49
Try a no load pot on the tone control.

But the Strat would probably be a backup for shows so having a simmilar sound would be nice.
Members soapbladder
Smartass answer: LEDs. lots of LEDs. Real answer: sanding off the finish...that won't do {censored}. Now, blocking the trem, that should work. OR, if you don't want to block it, a solid steel trem block would certainly brighten it up. Blocking the trem to make the guitar brighter Moving on. Members Kap'n
SG brighter than your strat? Either you've got mud-o-sonic pickups in there, or the guitar itself is a tone turd.
