Members squealie
Do the fretboard marker (on the majority of electric guitars) have anything to do with this graphic:http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/3/34/Guitar_harmonic_nodes.svg/600px-Guitar_harmonic_nodes.svg.png? OK, good eye. The octave, 5th and 4th. Perfect intervals, harmonic series and all that. Now what about the m3 (3rd fret) and maj6 (9th)? The 9th fret, now that we know that it very well MAY be arbitrary, because of the gypsy guitars above. May just be the closest spot to equally dividing the space between the 5th(7th fret) and octave. Same thing for third fret maybe?
Members faberbz
My classical only has a marker on the 7th Most classical guitars have no markers on the fingerboard but they do have the markers on top of the fingerboard, i.e. visible to the player, not to the audience. Not exactly classified information, I know. (My wife has a zillion classical guitars, even a couple of fretless ones she bought in Spain.)
