For Haiti. Thought this was cool (albeit pricey):

Santa Barbara, CA (January 29, 2010) -- Seymour Duncan and Yngwie J. Malmsteen are giving players the opportunity to own a very unique piece of gear while helping the recovery effort in Haiti by
.

Fresh off of unveiling his new signature pickups at NAMM '10, Yngwie visited the Seymour Duncan factory where he was shown how to wind pickups, and wound his first set: three true single-coil Strat pickups. The pickups and pickup labels are autographed by Yngwie.

The auction describes the pickups:

The pickup's design is based on Leo Fender

Y'know, all the jokes aside-- Yngwie seems like a cool guy. Yeah, at times he has a big mouth and can be a jerk, but his heart definitely seems like it's in the right place. His music is definitely unique. He has a vision that he has steadfastly followed since he emerged in the early 80s. While I rarely put on any of his music, his talent and ability cannot be denied. Good on ya, Wingnut.

Does anyone think those pups will be sold for let's say... more than $5000?

The man doesn't have enough money to go ahead and donate that amount or more if he cared about Haiti without the publicity tie in?

I take it he wasn't invited to the concert for Haiti?

Keep in mind a 6 year old child in UK raised over $240,000 for Haiti with a bike ride.

My guess would be that Yngwie doesn't have a spare $5000 to donate.

He's not a pop tart with hit songs. Like him or not he works hard for his income by playing shows and some recording. His style is so off of main stream it's not as easy to make money at it.

Props to him and Duncan for trying to help.
