Members cds0157
I just got an American Deluxe Strat and it has the Schaller locking tuners on it. I've never used any sort of locking tuner so I'm not 100 percent sure I know how to use them. Do I just feed the string straight in or at an angle? Do I still need to stretch the strings? How much slack should I leave in the string before winding?

Members Bro Blue
The hole for the string on the low E should be at 12:00, the A at 1:00, D at 2:00, G at 3:00, B at 4:00, and high E at 5:00. Just put the string into the hole, leaving no slack, tighten, and tune to pitch. Continue to do so until the strings are stretched and it holds pitch. There is no need for extra windings around the posts because the strings are locked.
Members SciFiGuy
From the Fender site: Locking tuning keys:Picture the headcap of the neck as the face of a clock, with the top being 12:00 and the nut being 6:00. Line the six tuning machines so that the first string keyhole is set at 1:00, the second at 2:00, the third and fourth at 3:00, the fifth at 4:00, and the sixth at 5:00. Pull the strings through tautly and tighten the thumb wheel, locking the string in. Now tune to pitch.
Members VanR
Yes you still need to stretch your strings.

Members TomCray
Not for everyone I guess. During the time when I modded my Strat regularly locking tuners saved a whole mess of time. Since I don't have to restring it or really wrap it around the post.
