Members Ferdinandstrat
OK, so anytime soon I'm gonna get my new guitar. Thing is I dunno if to buy a hard case or a high quality, padded gigbag. When you think of it, the only thing the gigbag doesnt do is protect your guitar from being runover by a car. Which do you think is better?
Members ExiledCrow
I'd prefer a hardcase, but I'm clumsy. Also depends on the gig-bag, I've got a Jackson one that is sturdy and well padded, but still, it's a bag.
Members PunkKitty
I'm a big fan of the Gator polyfoam cases. Hard case protection with gig bag weight.

Members Longhair
Hard cases are more non-guitarist friendly. Something to keep in mind around kids, girlfriend/wife when they are "cleaning".
Members scolfax
If you get a hard case and keep the guitar for 10-15 years, you'll be able to look at all of the battle-scars on the case and be glad that each mark shows a time when you didn't almost bust your guitar. Members Musicscotty
If you value your guitar (either financialy or sentimental) you will choose a good quality hard case. I would recommend a Hiscox hard case. http://www.hiscoxcases.com/

Members BG76
I have a Gibson gig bag and a Fender one. I also have hard cases. I just grab whatever is better for where I'm going. Check ebay for a decent cheap gig bag and buy the hard case.
Members Pine Apple Slim
Hard case is always better IMO.That said, several of my lower cost instruments that I paid between $100-$350 for only have gig bags and they do fine. Just cant step or sit on em, and you have to be careful about stacking them.
Members mrbrown49
I don't take my guitars out of the house much anymore but I still prefer hard cases because they are easier to stack and store. My gig bags always seems in the way whether they have a guitar in them or not. Cases stack neatly in the corner. When I do take guitars on the go hard cases ride much better in a car full of gear. Members Virgman
What sounds better, poly cases or nitro cases? What's the best way to relic a case? Thank you.

Members Belva
I too like the polyfoam cases. If you get a hard case get one that actually fits the damn guitar. A universal case will still let the guitar slop around inside. What's the point? I took some styrofoam and some black velveteen material and made side bolsters for my roadrunner polyfoam case. Once stitched in place the guitar can't move and it looks like it came from the factory that way.

I would recommend a Hiscox hard case. http://www.hiscoxcases.com/ These are terrific cases! Unfortunately, Hiscox does not make one that fits my guitar , so I am going with Calton Cases. Members JTEES4
I a have and use both, but the best protection is always a hard case.
Members flori
I have a Hiscox hard case for my faux LP.- 'Tis definitely the bizz for all-round crush-proof protection. A Gator style hardfoam case for my Fender Strat - Lighter than the Hiscox but best thought of as a 'stiffer' bag. A substantial GigBag that has served well is an 'Indie' bag which offers similar levels of protection as the rather good 'PRS' bags I've seen......BUT.....I recently bought my wif a 'Tribal Planet' Gig Bag' for her mandolin and these are truly magnificent...especially the more upmarket ones.(And not silly-money either) IDK how easy they are to get in the 'States but it's worth 'Googling' them if only for their whacky Pythonesque Promo videos ('Mortal Kumquat'...etc!) Members csm
As a non-driver. I use public transport a lot and gigbags are a lot easier to manage. Get good ones, though ... a crap one does little more than keep the rain off (and a REALLY crap one can't even be relied upon to do that).
Members Maess
I'm going to say both.
Members Crisco
I paid $39 two years ago for a Gator soft case for my LP. It was perfect! The same one sells for $69 now. I didn't think they would increase in popularity like they have, but If I was going to spend over $75 on a case it had better be a hard case or I'll think it was a rip-off. (lately I've seen some outlandishly high priced gig bags at Sam Ash in the $129 range.) LOL! ROFL!
Members alphamarquis
I'm going to say both. I agree. I have one gig bag in the house that fits all my instruments. Though each of my guitars has a hard case to keep it safe and climate controlled when travelling distnaces.
Members ten56gibby
The polyfoam cases intrigue me, but I am a huge SKB fan. Especially their newest line w the new latch design.

I wish I was as astute as you. I don't research cases. I go for the OEM ones Though I must admit the G&G Cases I have are super sexy.
