Beat this...

My wife WANTS me to buy an American Standard Tele with our tax return! I told her I'd be fine with a Mexican but SHE is the one pushing me!

Is she up to something? lol

who cares, as long as she doesn't hassle you ;) My wife hates me selling my guitars too, i just sold an LP and she kept telling me i was crazy.

My wife wants me to stop bringing home cheap hookers and having Coke snorting competitions with local down and outs in our hallway.

I do love her, so I've stopped the Coke (the down and outs are back on the cheap cider, though I still have 'em round) and I occasionally treat myself to a high class hooker!

Job's a goodun!

EDIT: Jan just told me the down and outs are just relatives visiting....I wondered who the {censored} they were!

My wife collects Barbie dolls. If you think paying $100.00 for an old cap or knob is insane you should see what a tiny pair of plastic shoes costs.

Me, I'd rather have shoes big enough to wear... ;)

Guitars, meh. My Fenders are special, any of the rest of them would be gone in an instant if I was offered enough. They all have their price.... even the Fender might if I really needed the money. I'd sacrifice a guitar before I would lose my cats, who are my only dependants. That said, while I have some nice stuff and a couple that are collectable, I'm not into actual vintage stuff. Even then, though, I've learned from the collectable stuff I do have that unless I bond with it as a player and like it for its own sake, it can be rare as rocking horse doo doo (especially bearing in mind I'm a lefty...), and really I won't be bothered by never having the option again. :idk:

Nonetheless, I'm sure I have stuff with which I would not part willingly, be it my Tele or other stuff, so I certainly can understand the value of having a partner that supports that interest.

A girl I was involved with, even briefly engaged to, some years back once suggested we sell my guitars (plural), and her one guitar, and "buy one really good one to share." I had to point out that that wouldn't work on the simple level of me being a lefty, and her being right handed..... nice that she paid me that sort of attention, you know?

That's cool Lou.

A little ways back some big bill or other was looming, and I said "I can always sell my Les Paul for more than I paid for it." Mrs. K's response: "You can't sell that guitar, you love it!"

The woman, bless her, knows me.

Which is not to say I wouldn't sell gear if need be. You can't eat them.

Bbreaker (I don't feel I know you well enough to call you Lou...); are you sure she wants you to keep them because you love them? Perhaps she feels that keeping your wealth tied up in tangible assets will assure her a more equitable split when she files for divorce. It's much easier to inventory and value guitars than liquid assets that can be split up and hidden under a variety of pseudonyms, etc. I think your wife is very canny....

Keep the wife, but sell if you have to/need to. Guitars are just things and if liquidating a few helps ease the current financial downturn, I say do it. IMHO collecting guitars when times are good is just about the best thing I can think of doing with discretionary dollars. But not selling a few when things hit a rough spot makes a collector into a hoarder.

At the end of the day, its just stuff (albeit really fun stuff).

She reminds me of the guitars that I shouldn't have sold..........like:
'55 Gretsch Country Club
'69 Ampeg Dan Armstrong
'64 Gibson SG Special
60's Mosrite Bass
