Members dres_x
I tried a random Jackson today in a shop and found it pretty nice, did some googling and these two models caught my eye: SLSMG: It's super thin! DK2M: Do any of you have any of these guitars? Comments?
Members buddhapaugh
A used DK2M is one of the BEST Superstrat vaules out there right now. I just sold one on E-bay for $349 in mint condition. I saw one go for $280 with a HSC last week!! The Jackson Floyd is pretty nice, the neck is great due to the compound radius. The maple fretboard gives it some extra bite over ebony or rosewood. And it has real Seymour Duncans. Just a great, great guitar if you find a nice used one for under $400. I wouldn't pay $800 for a new one though. It's not that nice!!
Members soliloquy
slsmg and the sls3, in my honest opinions, have the nicest neck i've ever played on any guitar EVER! to say it fits me like a glove is insulting the guitar. its second skin to me. and great accessibility too, super light, well crafted, and very solid guitar. the inlays on the SLS3 are just beautiful! dont care much for emgs, so thats my attraction to the sls3. the inlays are nice to have too. and it also has the slickest ebony board i've ever tried. DK2M i've tried are pretty cool too. not exactly as fun in terms of playability and comparing it to the sls3 though. but maple fret board, 24 frets? thats always awesome. Members dres_x
Oh wow only 280?! Guess I'll do some more hunting hehe I haven't tried either model (I just tried some lower end Jackson...not sure of hte model) so I guess I'll have to find the high ends ones to try. Any other opinions?
Members drawdeep
Ditto on the DK2M. I love mine and I agree that it is the best superstrat value out there. I would still have 2 if I had not traded one for a half-stack
Members dres_x
Damn all the ones on the bay right now are freaking expensive!!
Members Inazone
I have two DK2Ms. I bought the first one right after they were announced (back in 2005 IIRC) and paid around $550 for it. I really liked it, and jumped on one at GC on clearance for $299, which I'm currently having painted. One of the few Jacksons that actually sound good with the stock JB in the bridge, maybe because of the alder body. I can't say enough good things about the DK2M. Members Orange Jackson
For me the DK2m is a joy to play (once you get them set up ). I think it sounds very good and the feel is right on. Very versatile guitar. Very good neck. The floyd is really solid as well. I totally recommend it. I like it a lot better actually then the Charvel So-Cal that I recently picked up.
Members dres_x
I like it a lot better actually then the Charvel So-Cal that I recently picked up. What?? really?? I originally wanted a Charvel of some sort...but I haven't been able to find anything in my price range...the DK2M seemed similar for cheaper so that's why I'm looking into it. Why do you like the DK2M more?
Members Orange Jackson
What?? really?? I originally wanted a Charvel of some sort...but I haven't been able to find anything in my price range...the DK2M seemed similar for cheaper so that's why I'm looking into it. Why do you like the DK2M more? Do I need a flame suit? Maybe. Reasons that I like the DK2m more then the So-Cal. ymmv of course. I see it like this. The so-cal is a purpose built heavy rock machine. Awesome at that. The DK2m can do that type of music just fine, but it can also do really sweet jazz stuff, or clean type music with a lot of soul. This comes down to pickups ultimataly. But stock versatility, the dk2m wins hands down for me. The finish is for sure nicer on the So-Cal. The nut hardware is nicer on the So-Cal. So-Cal comes with strap locks, that is nice. I like the floyd better on the Dk2m. The fret work is the same on both. I like the neck shape better on the dk2m, it is a touch less beefy, and even though I have big ass hands, I can work around better on that neck. The So-Cal neck is like a squished C shape and the squished part does not do much for me. Both necks are nice though. I like the dinky body better. 24 frets? -hey I'm all for it. My Dk2m body is much more resonate than the So-Cals. Maybe my DK2m is just a live one, but that is big difference between the two for me. The Dk2m is a little more user friendly. Truss rod at the headstock vs. at the heel on the so-cal. Not a big deal, but as the seasons change I have to adjust necks, and it is just a little annoying to have to take off the neck to adjust the truss rod. Comparatively it is a pain in the ass. New these guitars are around $300 apart. A used So-cal is $700+ and a used Dk2m can be had for $350. That is something I like too. That is my take anyway. It is just a better guitar for me ultimately, so it depends on what your needs are.
Members ColoradoFenderB
I have a red DK2M. Bought it about a year or so ago at GC, they were selling them on clearance for $299, I think. The one at my local GC was {censored}ty and beat up, but they called around and found one several states away! Shipped it to my GC and I got it a week later, in perfect condition. Really, really nice guitar. I am not a shredder, but I couldn't pass up a deal as good as that one. I play it occasionally, when the mood to bang on a FR hits me. Members buddhapaugh
Be patient. You can find a nice used one for less than $400 on Ebay. Like I said. I sold one this past weekend in mint condition for $349. And it took nearly a week to sell!!
Members Clinically Deaf
I currently have a DKMG with EMG 81/60 and Original Floyd(edit: actually i put my Invader and '59 in it to try it but I think I have a shielding problem that I haven't had time to fix yet, anyway thats beside the point). For metal and shred absolutely awesome guitar. Just reiterating what everyone else has said, but it has a great neck with the cmpd radius, and sounds great. When I put the neck on I couldn't believe how tight the neck pocket was (key feature in bolt on necks.) Unfortunately I think my metal and shred days are behind me and she's actually for sale so I can help fund the purchase of P90 guitar. Black body without a single blemish. The neck was second hand and has a couple dings, but it's worn in and plays like butter. Rosewood board. Brand new Original Floyd Rose trem, major upgrade from the stock Jackson trem. If I sold it I would switch the pups back to EMG 81/60. I'd ship it in hard case for $500 total. PM and I can try and dig up some pics.
