Members Elias Graves
Car Guy and I were talking yesterday and I come to find out he's got an Alleykat just like mine...although he has Bigsby-fied his. Anyway, Flamekats, Alleykats, Wildkats. Who has em? Who's had one? They are/were made in somewhat limited numbers so there aren't a ton of em around. Curious as to who else has one of these lovely machines? Here's mine... EG
Members zerostreet
I've got a Wildkat that I enjoy. I have a love/hate thing going on with the stock pickups. Similar to a thread from yesterday, one day they sound great to me then the next day they don't. It's the guitar I practice most with lately so It has become very comfortable to me. Here she is:

Members Elias Graves
Nice. A pair of Wildkats!I played one once. It was a good player and sounded great. The pickups on the one I played were good. It was yellow. EG

Members carguy
Here's a pic of my Alleykat. It's probably the best playing electric guitar I've ever played. The neck has a nice, smooth feel -not too thick and not too thin. Here's a pic when I bought it, before any mods: And this pic is after I added the bigsby: Since these pics were taken, I changed out the pups to GFS. Members carguy
I have a flamekat. been thinking about selling it though. Nice guitar but I'm finding I just don't play it enough. I was really torn about which Kat to get when I bought mine: Alleykat (which I wound up with), Wildkat, or the Flamekat. I was really attracted to the Flamekat for some reason. I still think they are cool!

Members photon9
I think it was $350. It was about a year ago.
Members Elias Graves
Yep. Sam Ash seems to be out of the Alleykats. I got mine last summer for $369. Best deal ever! EG

Members sxyryan
I dated a girl that had one in the same finish and everything as yours, EG. She played mostly acoustic, so it never got a lot of play unless I was around. It played really nice and had a sound all it's own, unlike a lot of Epi's now adays. Members Elias Graves
I think Epi is at their best when building originals. The Gibson copies are cool, and I have an Epi SG, but the Epi exclusives are hot. It took me a while to make friends with the neck though. Its nice and wide the way I like it but its thin front to back. Turns out its a nice compromise. Wide so you can move around a bit but thin so as not to slow you down. Members MoreGuitars
That was one of the better Epiphone offerings.
Members Corwin81
looks like it's got Gretsch wiring. Is that a master volume on the horn?
Members Elias Graves
Yes, they have Gretsch controls. I love the master volume. Great idea that never caught on big time but I'm a fan. EG
Members carguy
You guys are right. There is a lot to like about the Kats and Epiphone in general. I agree that Epiphone is at it's best when they do originals. The copies aren't too bad either. On the whole, I think Epiphone produces great quality stuff for reasonable prices. I don't mean to kick up another Gibson vs Epiphone storm, but IMHO Epiphone is the way to go. My argument has always been that even if you concede that Gibson guitars, overall, are better than Epis, they are not that much better to justify spending the additional money. Members Inspector 71
I would buy an elitist version of it. The one I had felt really cheap. I did however get it in that MF blowout deal four or so years ago.

My thoughts exactly. Now, if all the Asian builders would give up the polyester finish...I'm not a big fan of the dipped in plastic look. Now, if all the Asian builders would give up the polyester finish...I'm not a big fan of the dipped in plastic look. EG Yeah... I like how guitars look when they age naturally. Not so much play wear but the way the colors fade over time. Poly fails in that area I think. Sometimes the finish on imports feels so thick... My MIM tele doesn't have that problem, but my Epi does a little and the neck on my SX strat feels super thick.
Members Elias Graves
The only way to relic a poly finished guitar is with a flamethrower. Toss it in the pond and it gets nothing but wet. EG
