Members twofoolsaminute
Obviously you gain hum canceling with a RWRP middle pickup, but are there disadvantages like losing some tones?
Members guitarcapo
I think it's a little less bright sounding when you combine them that way. Something about phase canceling the higher frequencies because of the distance between the two pickups being large.
Members rusholmeruffian
Strats from before sometime in the '70s had a non-RWRP middle pickup, and the "in-between" positions had correspondingly higher output and more high-frequency content--but also more hum. The next Strat-style guitar I get will have a non-RWRP middle pickup for this reason.
