Pros/Cons Agile AL-2000? What say you?

:idk:

I've seen a lot of people here give Agile guitars rave reviews and I am seriously considering finding one! I see they have a long line of Les Paul body styles. I figure they are like anything else - you get what you pay for.

But what's so different about the lower end ones? Like the 2000 models?

There has been other discussions on Agile - but specific to AL-2000. I have one. The good is that the quality is outstanding for the money. About inline with Epi - probably a bit better in craftsmanship. They are a bit heavy - about equal to a regular Gibson Les Paul Standard. The AL-2000 PUP's are ceramic, and a bit hot. But certainly passible.

Have fun.

If you are looking for a an Agile with P-90's you should check out the LP-2500 at My Music Store in Golden Valley MN. You are not likely to find another like it because it has the old headstock and correct horn. I traded it to them for another guitar but it was still there yesterday.

I've had a couple pass through my hands and I thought they were good. I like the necks, and yea, heavy but expected. Craftsmanship on 2 of the 3 were nice and one had some glue looking marks under the paint, but nothing to complain about. I like the ceramic magnets too, they aren't bad.

Well I thought I had subsribed to this thread to get updates on it... guess not. :idk:

Thanks for the feedback guys! I am looking into the Agiles right now and particularly the 2000 model. Im not in a position to spend another $500 on a guitar but I have been itching for one of these and I wanted some REAL feedback on this particular model.

As to the weight issue - I have read all about that. I think it is to be expected with the an Agile now.

As to the ceramic PUPS - I play SD Blackouts in my main guitar. I have no problem with a hot PUP. :thu:

I had one.

I think they're a solid guitar for the price.

What currently $225?

The one I had was actually lighter than my gibson lp std.

Multi 3 or 4 piece body on mine so pick a solid color to cover up the ugly wood if that bothers you.

Veneer top was nice though.

after debating for YEARS i finally caved in and took a chance. here's my take:

AL2000 in Silverburst.

it's a decent guitar. out of the box it needed a setup and tweaking to my tastes, but i DID play it for about a week prior to adjustment, in order to get a good reference as to where it started and where i was going to put it.

there were a few flaws on mine, the bushings for the TOM weren't flush to the body carve (i've seen that on Epi's too, so...) and there was a scraping on the neck binding at the end of the neck near the horn. 15th fret or so.

soundwise, the ceramic hb's it came with are quite passable and i have no qualms. who wouldn't like to customize them, right? but they're still in there and do well for what i'm playing with it - which is rock. they're adequately hot. again, on par with the Epi's.

the necks are a bit thin, and it does narrow down near the nut like on most imports - this is unEpi-like, as is the thin neck carve.

i didn't open up and check the wiring, because i haven't needed to. it's holding fine for now.

the only thing i'd consider MAJOR is how shallow the nut grooves were cut. it's almost like the nut is un-cut. the grooves are there, and widen out for the strings, but that's really it. not deep at all...

overall, the guitar has good bones. there are some minor flaws, but nothing i can't fix or ignore altogether. it's giggable, i've gigged it. it stood up to the abuse.

for $250, you can't go wrong. easily on par or better than any Epi i've ever played, and i played Epi exclusively before this Agile.

I've owned 2 agiles, an AL-3100 and a Valkyrie with P90's. They were both great guitars. I didn't really noticed the AL-3100 being too heavy and it was flawless when I got it. Sounded and Played great. The Valkyrie was wonderful also. I wouldn't hesitate to buy any of them, but I would definately spend the extra money and get an AL-3100 over the AL-2000.
