Members Electric Catfish
I never said that Jack White claimed to be an authentic bluesman. Sorry. What did you mean when you used the word "authenticity," then? And, long as you're at it, when has JW ever claimed "authenticity" of any other sort? If he hasn't, then what the hell were you talking about? Were you not the guy who said this?--- It's all about his authenticity, man. Like the Gretsch that he had turned into a double-cut and had a green bullet mic installed with a retractable cable. You know, like how the old blues guys each had their own personal luthier to customize their guitars. Yeah, can't imagine why it would come across that you were saying that he claimed to be an authentic bluesman. It's not like you used almost those very words, or anything. Members kirs
Who says you need to buy a guitar? Just a coke bottle, a string, a pickup, and five-thousand dollars in vintage amps
Members fretmonster
To the OP:To me it's all about tonez and the Strat, Tele, LP thing has been done to death. When somebody plays a Stratotone, or a Dano, or a Teisco or an Airline etc., they get a different vibe goin. What's wrong with playing something different? It's not like you used almost those very words, or anything. Infer whatever you want - I never said he claimed anything. With his de rigueur pawn shop beaters, vintage department store amps, Son House vinyl, coke bottle lap steel, old Cadillac, bloody fingers, short-brim fedora and a harp mic, he comes off as a very meticulously constructed "persona." I couldn't care less how he sees himself.

I couldn't care less how he sees himself. Except for the custom Gretsch you mentioned... When did I say anything about how he sees himself? Of course he's created a persona. What's your point? Is he trying to be "authentic...like the old blues guys" or an inauthentic persona? The only thing your posts really say is that you don't like the guy. I'd bet dollars to donuts that you're a huge fan of some other "persona."

I just find his adopted affectation of authenticity to be as pretentious as it is transparent. I gotta say though, the fact that my opinion of him bothers you so much is kinda weird. Members volvo1800
I don't know what you guys are talking about, he uses some cheap equipment but mostly expensive stuff. This Was like 299.00 in 59' certainly more then a Strat at the time. Then theres the gretsches . . . you know how pricey those can be. the cheapest thing he plays is that Kay which was his first guitar, and this other Asian guitar that I have seen him play in videos from like 10 years ago. That is all. A 7 Nation Army couldn't hold him back so I doubt your opinion of him will either! But word to the wise don't tell that to his face! Just ask Jason Stollsteimer of the Von Bondies about dissing Jack White the Motown Mangler... I think the blood on his hands does not come completely from cheap guitar playing.
