Members roul3tte_dares
Hello all, this is my first post on your lovely site. I got the bright idea a year ago to put together a telecaster with parts bought from various websites. About a month ago I got the last few pieces and began assembling the guitar, and it started to take shape. Today was my first attempt at wiring a standard tele, and needless to say...I wouldn't be here if I didn't need the help. The diagram that lollar provided seemed like it would work fine, but the only sound that comes out of my amp is a very loud humming. It sounds like it might need a lot more shielding than it currently has (which is nothing in the body cavities). The pup selector and pots work correctly, I just can't get the humming to stop. It actually gets worse if I touch the bridge or electronics cover. Here is a picture I took of the wiring diagram: and here is a picture of the wiring I got done (Ignore the duct tape on the grounds, I grew tired of re-soldering everything and took the lazy way out): Thank you for looking, and any help would be much appreciated. Members JRicoC
Humming means you have a faulty ground somewhere. Check your bridge, switch and output jack connections...
Members inkblot
Sounds like you may have gotten the tip and sleeve of the jack reversed.

Members -Assy-
i suspect the duct tape holding grounds on top of the pot might be a risk factor as well.

This ^^^ And make sure the posts on that cap aren't touching each other and the post on the other pot, it looks like they might be in the picture. You can trim the legs on that cap down to size, you don't have to twist and bend the cap to make it fit.
Members etawful
i suspect the duct tape holding grounds on top of the pot might be a risk factor as well. If the tape is holding the wires in place with no solder .. . that could be the problem, but I got the impression the problem was there before the tape was.
