I've got a "training video" on how to do cut out and paste using The Gimp, which is free graphics software roughly (very) equivalent to Photoshop. Equivalent enough for this sort of work. www.gimp.org (If anyone downloads The Gimp, be warned that the first time you run it, it sits there for AGES working out your fonts.
