Members roydmercer
Will a bone nut replacement for my 2008 Epi sheraton make a significant diff in the intonation and sound?
Members ashasha
Only way it helps with intonation is if the original is cut poorly and the new one is cut correctly. Tone is subjective and while I do prefer bone nuts the only time you'll hear it is while playing open notes. But one thing that I noticed is that the stock nut isn't a standard size; it's pretty big. I've got a Sherry that needs to be redone because the neck was broken and after releveling the nut slot it's just a tad too deep for the original nut. Members roydmercer
I appreciate the info.... The intonation is pretty good, but when I bend the strings they don't return all the way. I have Grover tuners and I made sure I tied the strings so they wouldn't slip. Is it possbily a saddle issue? or could it be the nut? Thanks again

Members roydmercer
Thanks, will a plastic nut cause a string to bind more than a bone nut?
Members vintage clubber
I use the TUSQ replacement nuts. They are very easy to shape and install. by the way, how big a boy are ya? :poke:

Members Belva
Graphite nuts are the slickest out there. Some people say they deaden the sound, but I think they have the wrong nuts in their hand. A plastic nut shouldn't bind unless the strings are a bit fat for the slot. I always cut mine just a bit big: .012 for a .010 string and so forth. If you go too big it can have detrimental effects. Nothing worse than sloppy nuts! Or nothing better, depending on what you're doing.
