gah, not Rancid. Is it me or do they just hang out on street corners and give people a signature guitar anymore? Whats next, an Offspring signature model complete with no controls so every song will sound identical?

Id ride that Gretsch though once the tailpiece and bridge were swapped out.

Noodles from the Offspring has had a signature guitar for years (actually he's had two so far). Their songs don't all sound the same either!

BTW the Tim Armstrong Gretsch looks killer! :thu:

Rancid have seven full-length albums out, have went platinum once, gold three times, scored in the Top 200 Albums with all but their first album, their most recent sitting at #11, survived almost 20 years of playing together through all of that, and are still extremely popular, maybe one of the most popular punk bands in the world. I could say almost the same for the Offspring.

How many albums have you sold?

You said it better than me.

Not to mention that Tim was also in Operation Ivy, possibly one of the best ska-punk bands that ever (briefly) existed.

I know that album sales don't equal musical ability, but they make signature guitars for people who other people idolize and are interested in playing or sounding like, in order to make money. And this player, and any other with a signature guitar, uses an instrument to do that. It's not some talentless pop singer or R&B artist who needs pitch correction to sound good. It's a player, who uses their instrument to make the music people are interested in.

Rancid are great...as for that guitar ive seen lots of better Gretschs.
:idk:

Get the Roadworn all the way!

It's a rough choice. Not much of a price difference... I dunno, that Black Dove Tele is also so so tempting, but... I've always wanted a Gretsch. Had numerous Teles and will likely have one again.

Anyway, FWIW, I saw Rancid with NOFX when I was young. It was one of the first punk shows I ever went to, and hey, I don't honestly think I'd be where I am without 'em.

Ive sold lots of albums, most were promos a friend gave me when he worked at Tower Records but I got no less than a dollar each at Penny Lane for them.

Rancid, never cared for them but I also never cared for hair bands, country music, teen pop or gangster rap. Im certain there is an army of people who will swear there is no better than Miley Cyrus but to me its crap.

Sorry but the Offspring are just terrible. Disturbing to hear there was a signature guitar from them. A friend was playing one of their cd's one day in his car and it sounded like the cd was skipping. It wasnt, it just all sounded the same. At a red light I took the cd and broke it by repeatedly closing the car door on it.

Was very satisfying.

See, that's my thing, I love gaudy things. And nothing says gaudy like a BIG ASS black and gold guitar.

Well, if you like gaudy, you might like my #1 (also a Gretsch, and I'm getting it pinstriped as soon as I can):

...I'm still just not a fan of gold hardware on about 99% of guitars. (I'd take a White Falcon though!)

Haha man! Yeah, I'm familiar with those. Been wanting one of those or a Billy Bo for a while. I'm assuming that's the Electromatic version, which is the one I wanna try, but you just don't see them around in shops enough. Haven't gotten to play one yet, y'know. Not sure how awkward they are.

Yeah, it's an Electromatic, but it's a damn good guitar actually. I bought it for a lark and it's become a favorite...I swapped out the cap and adjusted the pups an I like the stock ones just fine for this beast.

I'd love a Billy-Bo or a pro-line Diddley, but it ain't like I'm gonna have $2000+ to throw around anytime soon.

I can tell you, if they made an Electromatic Billy Bo, I'd be all over it.

As far as the awkwardness of the Bo Diddley, I was surprised to find it's not awkward at all...at least to me, but I'm a pretty tubby guy and maybe that's part of the reason.

Really though, playing the "red rectangle" either seated or standing, I find it perfectly comfortable...fret access over about the 19th or 20th can be a drag, but I'm mainly a rhythm guy and don't play up in the fifth position dog frequencies much anyway.

The difference is Rancid, and of course plenty of "hair bands" and country music, have inspired people to create music and learn to play an instrument. I can easily say that, without Rancid as a teenager, I wouldn't be into music as much as I am now. Do I think they're brilliant now? No, but I think they're good at what they do. Do I think they deserve a signature instrument? Well, I'm not to decide, because I most likely won't purchase it, but I suspect enough people will to make it a reasonable monetary choice for Gretsch.

I don't think I'd play guitar if not for Rancid. I recorded this Salvation cover when I first picked up guitar. Sounds like I was not even in tune for the solo :o
