Members 98 les paul
I'm getting set to purchase a strat and am stuck. I usually always choose rosewood fingerboards, but for some reason, all maple is calling my name. So, what say you? Maple or Rosewood?
Members csm
I'm certainly not immune to the right all-maple neckThe one on my JD Tele is SUBLIMEBut all else being equalIt's rosewood every time
Members cratz2
In absolute terms, I prefer maple, but I get along well with both. I think it comes down to which looks better with a particular body/pick guard combo.

Members Selsaral
I prefer rosewood for the feel, so that's all that I currently have, but I found out the hard way cause I prefer the looks of maple.
Members pvwolfgang5150
I never really know. I kinda go through phases. Currently I am in a rosewood phase so I would go with a rosewood board, but in another 6 months, likely my answer will be different.

Members Yavin
Maple. I have a Deluxe Plus with a rosewood board and so wish it was maple like my teles.
Members PunkKitty
I have a rosewood board on mine. I'd prefer maple but I'm not going to replace the neck or the guitar.
Members vintage clubber
get one of each...My MIA strat has rosewood, my MIM Classic series '50s is maple, and my warmoth has ebony...it's all good...
Members Cymro#1
I would have thought that you get what feels and plays best for you. Mine is a MIA white/maple board but I would quite easily choose a rosewood if it played better.

Members Alchemist
depends..... some new strats have that almost bone-white maple neck.... not a fan.... a used maple neck that has taken on that yellow tint looks great though

Members Longhair
Go with what compliments the body, pickguard, pickup color.
Members wartoxin
I thought it was a question of do you want some extra treble or some more warmth, which is why a tele might want a different wood?? As for looks, each is probably better with different colors, but I would choose woods first then other factors.
Members McCain
I like to look at the maple when playing but RW is better for rolling a fretboard and filing sharp frets without messing it up. Rub on a little hemp oil and it looks like new.

Members Musicscotty
My next guitar is very likely to be a Strat - with a maple board.I intend to go for a 3 colour tobacco sunburst - something pretty much exactly like this.
Members Musicscotty
I LOVE the look of maple. Just LOVE it. BUT be WARNED! The maple neck on the new American Standard Stratocaster is absolutely slathered in clear coat finish. Someone here complained about it and I thought, "give me a break!" but I tried several of them out and it's true. You can feel it under your fingers on your fretting hand. It's the thickest coating I've ever seen. It stopped my purchase cold. Aw crap ..... Is the American Deluxe the same? Anyone know?
