I've said it before...if I ever was to get a lap steel I would get one of yours...

Especially now that you have 30000 year old Mammoth Ivory....
:thu:

Unfortunately I have no clue how to play one or what to play with one...

Same here. But hell, it'd be fun figuring out what to play!

Thanks guys :)

They are not too tough to play, the basics come quick and the fun is instant.

As what to play? ... just about anything you can think of really. Lap steel is a very versatile instrument and can cover just about any style. It can cover, lead, rhythm, fills, ambient effects and even mimic vocals too with the right touch.

LoL ... my experience is they will find anything you try and hide no matter what :)

How about a close up of the knobs? They look like a very cool detail.

Here is a bit better look at them. Once the weather clears here I'll be taking some better pics.

They did turn out pretty cool. I originally was going to use a chicken head for the selector, but was not happy with the look combined with the chrome V and T knobs I was going to use ... so ... I made the selector knob, liked it, and ended up making a matching V and T.

Got a chance to really put her through the paces last night and thought I'd post a bit on the bridge saddle I used on this one. On previous variants, I've been using steel and stainless steel with great results. I've tried brass, and while ok, brass always seemed a tad dull, just lacking that something special. On this one I've been testing out a phosphor bronze saddle and I must say I'm liking it a lot. The bronze has a nice rich, clear, almost organic ring to it. Combined with Bryans sweet and articulate pickups, it makes for some killer sweet and rich tones. I guess thats why the high end top dollar cymbals are made of bronze and the best bells are cast from bronze.
